What Should We Knit for Fall?

Jun 30, 2010

The current knit-along (the Sleeveless Tuxedo Shirt) is still in progress, but I've been seeing all of the new fall magazines and I'm looking forward to knitting for cooler weather (even though it's supposed to be 80 degrees today!).

And I'm even more excited because last fall's sold-out issue of Interweave Knits is now available as a digital download in the Interweave store! So I've picked four of my favorites from that issue for us to consider for our next knit-along. There are two cardigans, a wrap, and a pullover vest that really popped out at me when I first got the fall '09 issue of Knits, and as I was looking through the issue again today, I found that those four patterns still inspire me. I want all four of them for my fall wardrobe!

So here they are—the Every Way Wrap by Okmin Park, the Maple Street Cardigan by Cecily Glowik MacDonald, the Big Montana Tunic by Cecily Glowik MacDonald, and Nordique Swing by Veronik Avery.

The Every Way Wrap is one of our most popular designs! A beautiful, versatile piece that's reversible, too, and the design is easily adaptable to any size. The Maple Street Cardigan is so cute!
I love the ruffles and the elbow-length sleeves. You can make this cropped cardi any length, too.

The Big Montana Tunic is a beautiful vest that incorporates a cowl collar and  lace panels down the front and back. Nordique Swing is a lacy cardi that works perfectly as a fall layering piece (and looks like fun to knit, too!).

Since all of these designs appeal to me, I'm sure at least one of them will appeal to you! So click here to take the survey and vote on your favorite. I'll announce the winning pattern and our knit-along schedule on July 9.

Has the winning pattern and schedule been announced yet for the next knit-a-long? I've been eagerly waiting/looking and don't know if I just missed the announcement. Thanks!

I'm going to agree with Artful Soul - none of these are a style that I would actually wear, and I'm too slow to be knitting for others at this point.  I just don't think any of these would be flattering to my "A is for Apple" shape or for my size.  Good luck to everyone participating though!

I would love to do the Every Day Wrap!!!  It's probably the only one I would do actually. Cables + a shawl/ wrap.... 2 of my favorites. And it's a shawl w/ a'll stay put while you do things.

Sadly, as much as I love the Knitting Daily KALs, there is not one of these choices I want to do.  I also passed on the Tuxedo tank.  Just not for me.  But have fun!!

Just downloaded the 7 free cardigans - thanks very much! The problem now is which one to do first - and it's not easy when you have at least three other garments 'on the go', of which two are cardigans, would you believe? Personally, I find them so much more versatile than jackets, and so much less corporate-looking and stiff. Luckily my workplace has a fairly relaxed attitude to dressing so they get a good amount of wear. It's also an 18 th century listed building in the centre of Bristol, UK, which means it's COLD.

Many thanks again and keep up the good work.

Nordique Swing has a classic silhouette; the 3/4 sleeves are so excellent for office wear.  And I love to get my lace on.  lol

I LOVE the Maple Street Cardigan--such a pretty style, and it looks like it would end up being my new favorite sweater.  That one gets my vote.

this was a hard one...I had all those patterns on my "planning board!" But I especially love the Maple Street's just so pretty and feminine for a season full of parkas and bulky layers! Every Way Wrap is also top of the list. I like it worn like a halter vest...perfect in olive or navy blue over tees, jeans, and a great pair of boots!
