A new knit-along for Spring!

Mar 24, 2011

It's that time again, knitters! I've chosen five patterns for your perusal and knit-along voting..

Spring it trying its best to arrive, and I thought we could help it along with some warm-weather knit-along choices!

These patterns will take you from spring to summer and beyond—we've got some shawls, a tee, and a cardigan; sort of a potpourri of knitting for women!

Here are the contenders:

The Clementine Shawlette is one of my favorites. I love the lace pattern and how designer Michele Rose Orne put the ties on each end. This is a wonderful wrap to have on hand in the springtime.
The Impasto Shawlette by Susanna IC is made from a smooth cotton yarn using a slip-stitch colorwork pattern. Choose your colors right and you can wear this beauty with any outfit!
Mandy Moore's Emily Shawl is a great pattern for beginning lace knitters. Its triangular shape makes it a versatile accessory; you can wear it over your shoulders or with the V in front and the ends wrapped around your neck and tied in the front kerchief-style. The Lace Saddle Tee by Lisa Rowe is simplicity with a bow on top! It's a straightforward stockinette pattern, but the lace-motif shoulders are the star. Yarn choice will be really fun with this one, I think I'd go with a bright color. And, as you can see, it works great as a layering piece.
I'm not trying to influence you AT ALL, but this one is my favorite. It's the Maple Street Cardigan by Cecily Glowick MacDonald. I love the ruffles (I know, I know I'm slightly obsessed with ruffles), but the cardi is equally cute without them. This is a top-down construction, which makes it easy to customize because you can try it on as you go. I particularly like top-down sweaters because I usually add a couple of inches to the total length so trying on as I go is helpful. I would add several inches to the Maple Street because as shown it would hit me in a bad spot. Yarn choice for this would be fun, too—it's designed for worsted-weight so you have lots of choices.

What do you think? Check out each of these on Ravelry if you want to see more photos and yarn options, then choose your favorite and take the survey.

I'll announce the winner on April 8. May the best pattern win!

Cheers,

P.S. Not on Facebook? Just leave your vote below as a comment and I'll include it in the tally.

I think I would get a lot of use out of the Maple Street Cardigan, and I also lke the ruffle detail. It makes it somewhat feminine and somewhat tailored.

I voted for the saddle tee and went looking for the yarn over the weekend.  I checked online after finding the company that sells the yarn only to find it has been discontinued and there is next to nothing left in their inventory.  I want to make the sweater whether it is the winner or not  and intend to buy the pattern, but I would like to find some yarn to replace the one mentioned in the pattern.Thank you, Scottie Rogerson

Please have future voting elsewhere for those of us who are not facebook people.

I seem to be alone, but I vote for the Impasto Shawlette - I love shawls (year long), but rarely have one as mine go to friends and family who can't stop wearing them - LOL - so I just keep knitting... I guess I will knit one shawl or another regardless of outcome here... So, while I still vote for the Impasto Shawlette (in various shades of same colorway - yummy), I look forward to seeing the winner for the KAL.

I followed the link to vote for the Emily Shawl as my pick for a spring knit-along and was very disappointed that it took me to Facebook - wish it had pointed out that the link was leaving the Interweave site to go to a Facebook page...and why, I wonder, when the poll could just as easily be done on Interweave's pages? Why would I choose to go to an aesthetically sad and cluttered Facebook page when Interweave's own site is beautifully arranged and presented? ...because every other corporation has jumped on the bandwagon is not reason enough. Just like the king and all his minions in that old classic  "The Emporer's New Clothes, we're all being had.

My vote is for the Clementine Shawlette.

I echo the comments about Facebook as I was horrified when the voting line took me there.   I am aware of a nice knitting internet group that failed and disbanded when the owner insisted that the only way you could get anything was to be on Facebook or Twitter due to her "marketing plan" and I had just purchased four skeins of her high-end yarn!  Never again.

Lace saddle tee gets mine, too; I did vote on Facebook. That cardigan is ok...not so flattering on larger women, especially large busted women.  I certainly don't need any enhancement in the bust area, and those ruffles, that cropped top....bust enhancement doubled!

Oi, shawls, shawls, shawls! To me they are just another (perhaps larger, sometimes not) version of a scarf.  Who wears all these shawls and when? They're a pain to keep on unless you wear it as a scarf, all wrapped around you.
