I made the Kimono Socks. I like Star Athena's sock designs and hope to make the Freshman Cable Socks (KnitScene Fall 2009) very soon or maybe a pair of her thigh-highs (such as one in "Joy of Sox"). I went a little further with the Japanese theme and at the last stretch converted the toes to "tabi" so that I could wear them with flip-flops or even the wooden soled sandals that the Japanese call "geta." I also used the recommended yarn (Louet Gems Opal), but in a soft green. It was called "sage," but the color reminded me more of jade. I have posted a picture of my take on Star Athena's Kimono Socks.

I am getting very upset!!!! I have been trying everything to get a free copy of the "central park hoodie" pattern. I can't get a copy , no matter what I do. HELP!!! Can someone send me a copy? I have tried all the suggestions people sent me but nothing worked. I am very frustrated and just want to cry.

I live in California and also only wear socks in the wintertime (except with running shoes) and like you, they are covered up with pants and shoes. However, when wearing cool hand-knit socks you can always pull up your pants leg and show them to your friends - especially your knitting friends. The great thing about hand knit socks is that they are WAY more comfortable than store-bought socks, they fit perfectly and the heels don't slide down. The other thing is that they are quick, easy and fun to make, and your non-knitting friends will be amazed and impressed (and so will your knitting friends).

LauraM, I've knitted for over 20 years and felt like you about socks. Then about a month ago I figured I would try a pair after seeing the idea of making both socks, toe-up pattern, on 2 circular needles. I have to say it is addicting and the best part is you have both finished at the same time! I now have over a dozen pairs made using small amounts of yarn that I had that I couldn't figure out what to do with, or was left over from making sweaters. They knit up fairly quickly and its fun to match your wardrobe.

I am a fairly new knitter and I have to admit that I don't understand socks. Maybe its because I live in Georgia and I haven't worn socks since mid-March! (Except white athletic socks with running shoes.) Even in winter when I wear socks, they are covered up mostly by pants and shoes. Is it like wearing beautiful lingerie, only you need to know? Somebody enlighten me. Thanks, Laura
