A slouch hat is the hat worn by Australian soldiers - wide brim turned up on one side and attached to the side of the crown. Our soldiers have been wearing real slouch hats since before WWI. To call the Barrymore hat a slouch hat is quite annoying, some may say insulting (I don't, but others, particularly those who serve or who have served, might). I absolutely understand that this is unintentional and, no doubt, unknowingly done, but could it possibly be renamed?

Sorry to be a grump

I've been knitting on double points for about 8 years now (they are a bit weird at first, but don't give up....very nice results for socks and hats etc.) You can use a marker, just put it AFTER the first stitch for the beginning round. It will stay in place of course that way. I really like to use jump rings, a jewelry item. The silver ones are small enough not to be in the way, and are heavy enough to not fly off into space like the plastic ones do. I don't like anything hanging from them either. You always have to deal with the bauble! If you want some pizazz use the new colored ones...they might be titanium, I'm not sure but I bought a packet of them and now share with my sock knitting friends.

I've done joining in the round with the slip stitch method, too, and I think it makes a stronger join, especially if you're using DPNs. I rarely use DPNs, though, so I just start knitting like eunny does in the video.

Thanks for your comments!

If you ever find a pattern for a knitted felted fedora, please share. I've seen some around but they all seem to lack flair, somehow. I love brims, tams, and other hats that frame your face a bit, I do believe a good hat needs to do this, since it's covering up your hair that usually serves this purpose. Thanks again for a great service to us knitters. ^_^ knit on...
