I'm already thinking about tomorrow, though—I can't believe it's going to be 2011. Why does the time seem to go faster as we get older?
I've inherited my mother's supply of knitting needles so, added to my own, I have a lot! I understand your needle stash predicament! I store all the straight ones in two roll-up frabric containers, one purchased, one I made years ago. But I've way outgrown them. Do you have any ideas for storage of a large quantity of straight needles? Should I make a roll-up one that will hold them all? I haven't seen a suitable one readymade. For my circulars, I am thrilled to have found the Circular Solution, which hangs from a hanger and keeps them all untangled and easily identifiable.

Thanks, Jan

Debbie Bliss's "How To Knit" also has a good pattern. I made mine in just 3 weeks (yes, I lost sleep) last August, using Noro Silk Garden Lite...9 different colorways! I saw this in a shop in NYC and was blown away. With 9 different colorways, the result is an absolute knockout. Good luck and have fun. (And do learn to knit backwards; it isn't hard.)

For 2011, I plan on doing the following:

1. Catalogue my knitting patterns.

2. Organize my stash.

3. Knit more from my stash and buy less yarn until a good amount of my stash has been knitted up.

4. Learn double knitting.

5. Go to one knitting seminar/festival/cruise.

When you are four years old, 12 months is 1/4 of your lifespan! When you are 20 years old, a year is 1/20 of your life. Five years to a 20-year-old may then be the same relative time as a year to a four-year-old.

As far as 2011, I have resolved to go on a strict diet beginning January 7th -- my goal is for my HOUSE to lose 10 pounds of clutter daily until I have everything organized (except my "studio" space, which functions best in happy chaos).

Happy New Year!

I have about 5 projects that I need to do, some in knit and some in crochet. Those things are going to be at the top of my NY Resolution list. I'm not much on organization either, so that's going to be next on my list. I have yarn, needles, hooks, and other tools scattered hither and yon. Next, I want to learn English knitting and also intarsia. I knit continental style (at least I think that's what it is -- it's the throw your yarn method.) I crochet much faster than I knit and I'm thinking that one reason I'm such a slow knitter is because I don't English knit. It just seems that every time I'm going to knit something, I'm in a hurry and don't want to slow myself down by trying to learn a new method. I'm also going to knit some socks this year. I want to get that book you mentioned. I want to learn to design my own scarf. I also want to do some mitts this year. I vowed around Christmas this year, as I was struggling to get things finished, that I would start as soon as I get my left over projects done on things to give as presents for Christmas 2011. So wish me luck! You mentioned moving -- I hope that means just another abode and not another town? Knitting along, Myra Wade

My theory on why time goes faster the older we get:

When we are, say 10 years old - 5 years is half of our life - it seems like forever. Conversely, when we are 50, 5 years is only one-tenth of our life and seems like a drop in the ocean. 5 years to a child is a long time but to a seasoned adult, it's a tick in time.

Keep the informative posts coming! I love to read them. As for resolutions, I am going to learn new techniques. Just learned the wrap and turn today and I love it.
