I'm excited to be attending Interweave Knitting Lab for the first time this year--there's nothing quite like the buzz of activity at a craft retreat. People knitting in lobbies, in gardens, chatter everywhere, laughter, teachers intently passing on obscure ethnic techniques, new projects being cast on, new friends being made...This event takes place May 15-18 in Manchester, New Hampshire, and there's still time to register. Come and check out the classes, the market, and mingle with some of the most knowledgeable leaders in the knitting world. If you need to stay overnight, you have 3 days left to take advantage of the group discount at the hotel.
There's still space in classes taught by Lily Chin, Nancy Bush, Beth Brown Reinsel, and Katrine Wohllebe (who studied domino knitting with Vivian Hoxbro), and others. I'm mulling over my own selections...with names like these, it's tough!
· Strickmuster: the beautiful twisted stitch patterns of Austria
(2-day intensive) taught by candace eisner strick
· The Danish skrå-trøje (2-day intensive) taught by beth
· Two triangular scarves from estonia
(2-day intensive) taught by nancy bush
I'll be attending from Friday afternoon through Sunday and I'd love to meet you there. If you're in the area and want to drop in for a class or one of the evening activities, or shop in the market, we'd love to have you. On Friday night, we'll be viewing episodes from the new season of Knitting Daily TV and host Vickie Howell will be signing DVDs and serving up the wine! I've hung out Vickie before and she is a real hoot. Plus, there's a bag of free goodies and I'll be there to talk magazines, dropped stitches, and other secrets :) Then, on Saturday night, we'll be graced with the witty, knitty stylings and storytelling of Clara Parkes. And dessert. Clara is a real light in our industry and I never regret eating chocolate (or claramels) with her! These activities are listed under Special Events on the website.
And what else? Well, there's a silent auction, which includes ample samples from past issues of Interweave Knits, knit.wear, and knitscene magazines. And I will have advance, not-yet-released copies of the summer issue of Interweave Knits, so come and find me! I look forward to seeing you there.
