Win the Next Season of KDTV on DVD, Behind-the-scenes of Series 700

May 18, 2011

Time flies! This July the newest series of Knitting Daily TV will be airing on Public Television stations nationwide. Here's a behind-the-scenes peek at our latest taping, from associate producer Annie Hartman Bakken.

 Taping KDTV Series 700

After descending on Beachwood, Ohio, for a fast week of knitting and crochet in the production studio, we just concluded our seventh season of taping Knitting Daily TV!

In order to put together a star-studded, information-packed season, we depend heavily on sponsors, our content producer, guest stars, and even the UPS man to deliver the garments in time. We had some close calls and a few last minute changes, but we managed to put together what I think is the best season of Knitting Daily TV to date!

We have 13 jam-packed episodes of Getting Started and Quick-Tips segments for knitters, including techniques like knitting with the magic loop method, felting gauge tutorials, knitting fixes, an in-depth look at wrapped stitches, non-traditional ways of joining, short-row tips, a study of knitted steeks, and much more.

Crocheters will enjoy the crochet-along with Kristin and the editor of Interweave Crochet, Marcy Smith, putting together the Chain Reaction Afghan Project. Learn how to crochet 20 afghan squares, along with unique ways of joining them for a beautiful finish.

And we have guest stars galore: Laura Bryant, Barry Klein, KT Baldassaro, Penny Sitler, Mathew Gnagy, and Deborah Norville, just to name a few.

It's not all hard work, though! We always find time to have fun when we're together. There's a Filene's Basement close to the studio for shopping and there are great restaurants in the area for our bi-annual dinner together.

Wardrobe Control

Since we tape the show out of order, we have to somehow keep track of which sweater Eunny wears for each episode.

All the sweaters are hung and labeled with tags, but the easiest solution to double-checking that Eunny has right sweater on is to take digital photos of her and print them out, label them with post-it notes that say which episode is which, and tape them to the studio door (photo at right).

Happy Moments

When the cameras aren't rolling, we do have a lot of fun, giggly moments. The folks at the studio and the people we work with in the yarn industry are one-of-a-kind, genuine people. It's been a pleasure working closely with everyone involved.

Thank you for another great season!

Season 700 of Knitting Daily TV will begin airing on Public Television stations nationwide this coming July, be sure to check your local listings to see if it will air in your area.

Cheers,

A warm hello to all the stars n crew of Knitting daily tv

Well I am from south n have been living in the gulf for quite few years.  It was a dream to learn knitting during my childhood days as no one near me knew what to do with two pointed needles.  I still remember my mom used to take one of my needle to *** fritters ha ha . Well but now she is doing the basic of knitting thanks to all the videos uploaded from which I could learn that knitting is just not Knit n purling on all rows continuously but you can alternate or skip or pick up as per your creativity longs you to.  Well I used to knit with the yarn in my right hand but I was so admired by Eunny jang that i learnt to do it with my left n now I can do it with both hands. Thank you a lot Eunny n the way u explain wow I just love you. Not to forget about the stars you bring in spot light designer I usually wonder how does their creativity work my goodness I  wish i could come up with some but I only to follow them that is taught on the video. During my study through the videos I came to know there is a large collection of wool/yarn in colour, type, weight , strands etc but in vain not able to try out the differnt wools n yarns as we dont get them here in Kuwait so ask my freinds to help me in geting it on their way back to kuwait from the west.  Last but not the least Kristen omdahl's crocheting has given me more what I could expect and I did try out some from what I could get here.  Well We dont get the program here so I completly rely on the vidoes you upload.  But happy n glad to know there are so many knitters n crocheters who are very much inspired as I am with this show. Keep up the good work and All the best wishes to the whole crew members flourish in future too.

Thank you all, for being there for all of us knitters, regardless of how advanced we are.

I haven't knit for awhile now, but reading you on the web has given me the courage and confidence to pick up the needles and show my daughters once again, and granddaughter the basics and love of knitting.  And that's where I'm at at this point....there is so much to learn, so many techniques.

I thought that it would be great to finally find some time for myself, and basically a good remedy for arthritis, and alzheimer's.  (Why not?  ; )

At this point, unfortunately, we do not get Knitting Daily TV in our area. (Quebec)  I really appreciate your dedication, and the fact that I have recently found you.

I live in Appleton, WI and we don't get Knitting Daily TV in my area.  We don't get any knitting or crochet shows at all!  Luckily my grandma who lives in Florida gets the show and understands my yarny needs! :) This fall she started recording them on video cassette for me.  I may be a couple months behind schedule but there's nothing else I'd rather watch! Just recently I saw the episode that had different ways to join yarn and I learned about the felted join. That was one of the most fantastic things I learned and I used it right away on a wool scarf I have been making.  Thank you for all of the great information!

My local PBS doesn't carry Knitting Daily, or I would be all over it.  I love to knit, but since my nearest LYS is about 25 miles away, I throw my own fiber parties.  We usually focus on a skill that we are trying to improve.  It is a fun multi-cultural, multi-age group. Right now I'm teaching them how to turn heels in socks.  I do listen to a blog faithfully, and knit in front of the computer like people did when they used to listen to the old time radio shows, as it plays.

I  so enjoy your program.  Eons ago, when I was young, my Gramas taught me all of the  needle arts. It was a hobby to not only fill my hopechest, but to sooth me in those difficult teenage years.  Life went on, in my twenties, I got Rhuematoid Arthritis, and was unable to continue sewing, knitting, etc., and so missed it.  To make a LONG story short, I've just lately been able to pick up my needles again.  Being able to watch all the new techniques, see the new yarns, and all the information has pushed me into a yarn harlot - can't pass a yarn or fabric store without going inside.

So, thanks for the program!  If I could get it all week, I,d watch. Instead, I surf all knitting sites, especially Knitting Daily.

We do not receive the show locally.  I have purchased some of the DVD's and checked some out from the library.  The time limit from the library forces a person to watch a lot at once.  This puts me in sensory overload.  The tutorials are really good and the samples shown are always beautiful.  Love the Daily newsletters.

Win the Season DVD?  Please enter me!  My local PBS station doesn't carry the show anymore.  I send them my comments, hoping others will also, so that maybe they will decide to include your show in their lineup.  So my only other hope to see the show is to own the DVD, and on a limited income (even though I still manage to purchase yarns for my stash) I am hesitant to buy.

I'm so glad OPB TV in Portland carries KDTV! Today is Saturday so I get to see an episode!  You always miss some though, so wouldn't it be great to win the while season. A half hour goes by in a flash watching KDTV. I have the 600 series ready at hand to watch again and again. There's way to much to absorb through just a single viewing. Keep up the great work. PBS continues the Eliz. Zimmermann tradition of Knitters' Workshop with this show. I'm so pleased there is a largeenough audience to support this effort! KDTV, PBS, and knitters all rock!

I love the Knitting Daily TV video clips from the show on this site because the PBS station we have here (in Vancouver, Canada) doesn't air it — so this is the only way I get to enjoy it. I've learned a lot from the tutorials, especially with Eunny. One that I watched recently was how to make a zipper a knittable item, using that tiny stitch-picker hook. I picked one up after watching that and am ready for it whenever the need arises.

on May 21, 2011 9:23 AM

I try to be able to sit for that half hour and knit while I watch the show.  (With a relaxing cup of tea)  I am an experienced knitter, but I like hearing about knitting and I have gotten a tip or two from the show.  I love the short introductions to designers and authors of books.  I know the show is short and it is hard to fit everything in, but I would love to see a little more of the history of knitting, I am a great fan of Interweave's Piecework,  I am just glad there is a very good informative knitting show on TV, that I can get in my part of the country.

Thanks Knitting Daily for the TV sho that holds all neddle enthusiate's interest.

I am really looking forward to your new season of programs. As a

relatively newbie at knitting, 2 1/2 years, I need all the help I can

get !  I was facinated by the eyelash yarn scarves and since they

weren't in stores near here I decided to try my hand at knitting

one.  I've crocheted since about 9-10 yrs of age so had lots of

confidence.  LOL  Little did I know about it all though. Had I

watched your programs and others about knitting I would have

known not to start out with Eyelash as first project. Used black

and it turned out really pretty but had many ups & downs doing it.

Friend who is a prolicfic knitter said, omg, why did you start with

that ?  And laughed and laughed.

Thanks for all your inspiration and good programs !

Of course, Eunny Jang has been the one that has taught me more than the other designers. She explains every technique so easy. I wish you could manage to upload this show on the web so that everybody who loves your TV programme can rejoice watching every episode at all, not only segments.

As soon as I see something I did not know how to make it better, I take my needles and a piece of yarn to practice the technique. I also write it down to remember it and treasure it on my files.

I've been knitting for 33 years and have not had the opportunity to be taught by a mother, grandmother or another female role model simply because they don't have the skills either.

I recall that I learned to pick up the needles at age of 8 years at primary school during a craft lesson and from that day, I was addicted about yarn and knitting. I hassled my mum to buy me wool whenever we went to the shops and I knitted the most uneven, horribly coloured garter stitch scarves with many holes.

Over the years, I learned to fix my mistakes and picked up what I could from books but there was a lot of trial and error. Until this day, I still don't know as much as I should.  When I found this site accidentally and all the useful resources and the shows that teach us about yarn, techniques and tips - I was so happy.  This was my 'female substitute role model' (okay and some males) that I never had.

Keep up the good work.  I love your shows and your website because you keep these skills alive so that we can pass them on to the next generation.  Too often nowadays we don't have the pleasure of sharing, wearing and making our clothes but you have made a difference to my life.

Kind regards

It's too hard to choose my favorite episode.  I have 7 saved in my Tivo right now htat have techniques I want to incorporate.  Maybe the one with beading techniques because I don't think I'll shy away from a beading project anymore.  I don't have a favorite guest star at all although I have been exposed to so many people I knew nothing about before.  I do like it when you show young people who have caught the bug, especially those who are learning in school.  This is a very different time than when I learned to knit and crochet and I'm really happy to see it.  Knitting Daily is on at 9am EST on Fridays (it's the only time/day it's shown in my area) and I Tivo it so I can watch it at my leisure.  I keep a pair of needles and scrap yarn handy but watch a section first, then rewind and follow knitting to try the technique.  I watch crochet corner but rarely try the techniques at that time.  I prefer knitting and rarely crochet anymore.

I'd love to win the set of DVDs so I can watch and put to use so much of what I've learned over time.

It has been a goal of mine to learn how to knit using the continental (or pick) method.  Always found the knit stitches easy, but could never get the purl down to the correct rhythm.  Recently watched a purl demo by Eunny -- got it!   Thanks so much Eunny.  Looking forward to another great season.

I love knitting daily, especially on DVD.  It isn't available on any stations near me.  I can watch it whenever I have time.  I can re-watch it when I am looking for a specific technique or tip.  I have the first 6 series and love everyone.

I love the show!   Local PBS usually shows it at noon so that is a perfect time to take a break, eat lunch, and watch TV.    I've been a knitter for many years, but am always amazed at the techniques and new ideas you come up with!    Thanks a million and keep up the great work......We knitters need you !!

would love to see some of these in the seasons to follow:

1. a segment for advanced/expert hand-knitters

2. interviews with knitting technicians, sample knitters, ghost-writers of patterns, commission knitters etc

3. reviews of software design tools

4. more on coordinating colours for bohus, argyle, fair isle yokes etc

I love this program! Since I am unemployed at present, Knitting Daily provides me an opportunity to preview new patterns and learn new skills. If I won the DVD's I would be able to repeat segments for deeper understanding. I understand that the DVD's go into further detail that time limits prevent airing on the program. I would really appreciate winning the set.

I love Knitting Daily! My favorite episode explained what entrelac is and how to do it. I was always intimidated by that method, but intrigued at the same time because of how beautiful it is. I knitted along with the show and picked it up right away. It is now my favorite method! I have learned so much from the show over the seasons, and always look forward to watching it on Monday morning while knitting. I also love the magic loop method instruction. I have always had trouble with DPN's and this is a great alternative for me. Eunny explains everything so well!

I love Knitting Daily TV both on the Internet and on PBS! It comes on Friday afternoons where I live and I can't knit while I watch it because I'm afraid I would miss something! I could not even begin to pick a favorite segment, or technique, or guest, or even pattern because I love them all. I have learned about knitting techniques and designers that I didn't know where out there from watching and I always check out the patterns whenever I get ready to knit a new project! Thanks for a great show!

I love you Knitting Daily! I really enjoy watching Eunny demonstrate her impressive knitting skills. She was also in my yoga class last year, but I was too shy to go say hello to my favorite knitting celebrity!

Keep up the good work!

Love watching the show - I just wish it lasted longer! Thirty minutes goes by so quickly...

That said - I do know what it takes to produce a tv show as I was a reporter in the field and later a producer. It's an enormous amount of work and you do it so well. Continuity is really an issue!

The shows are awesome, from what little excerpts are given on your website. It would be awesome to watch it all on DVD since it is not available locally. Shame on them: Knitting Daily is one of the best tools around to improve your knitting skills :)

It's hard to pick one favorite technique from the shows..there is so much useful info on the shows. I especially liked the segment about cable making without a cable needle; it has come in handy at times.

All stars and guests are knowledgeable. I especially appreciate segments that break techniques down into small steps.

I do NOT knit while watching, as I want to absorb as much info as possible without the distraction of knitting.

Here in Pittsburgh the show airs at 9AM.
