Jul 25, 2011

Tuned In To Knitting Daily TV's blog is back!

With the launch of the latest series 700 now airing on Public Television stations, we're starting up the Tuned In To Knitting Daily TV Blog once again to share some fun fiber stories, patterns, and talent from the newest episodes.

This season we're excited to have a line-up of well-known knit and crochet designers, more tips and techniques from host Eunny Jang, and we're introducing the 13-episode crochet-along with Marcy Smith for the Chain Reaction Afghan Project. Be sure to check out KnittingDailyTV.com for more information on each episode, as well as links to free patterns shown.

Watch a preview of Knitting Daily TV Series 700:

With a lot of knitting and crochet how-to, this season is sure to increase your fiber knowledge. Here's a breakdown of this season's numbers:

13 in-depth technique segments: Host of Knitting Daily TV (and editor of Interweave Knits magazine) Eunny Jang begins each episode with a knitting tutorial. This season showcases knitting socks with the magic loop method, an overview of knitted felt, how to fix handknits that fit poorly, unique wrapped stitch techniques, bind-off methods, and lots more.

7 star designers:
Invite novelty yarn specialist KT Baldassaro into your fiber studio to add beads to a summer tank. Fan-favorites Laura Bryant and Barry Klein touch on proper ways to measure for knitting and how to add knitted ruffles to your work. Other guests include the Helping Hands Foundation's Penny Sitler, celebrity knitter Deborah Norville, new author Mathew Gnagy, and more.

13 Chain Reaction Afghan Project crochet-alongs: For crocheters out there, each episode brings crochet expert Kristin Omdahl and editor of Interweave Crochet magazine Marcy Smith together to discuss and make the Chain Reaction Afghan Project. A collaborative afghan of 20 squares from well-known and up-and-coming designers, this afghan has a vast amount of crochet techniques from simple to quite complicated.

13 quick-tips from Eunny Jang: Each episode of Knitting Daily TV ends with a quick-tip from Eunny, all which are simple to master and ingenious for making your knitting nightmares disappear. Learn how to finish your projects with whipstitch, baseball stitch, mattress stitch, knit-on edgings, and even custom toggles. Also learn how to weave in your ends in intarsia knitting, keep track of your knitting using stitch markers, and more.

10 patterns:
As always, with each series of Knitting Daily TV free pattern downloads are available on the website KnittingDailyTV.com (click here for them all) so you can knit and crochet along with the cast and crew. For the beginning knitters, there's a fun cabled scarf that incorporates novelty yarns. For the more advanced knitter, there's Mathew Gnagy's Bethany Cardigan, which you can download in September, that derives its shape from sideways knitting techniques. And for the crocheters, there's a beautiful crocheted shawl and a complete 20-square afghan.

23+ free, downloadable tips:
Knitting Daily TV Series 700 also includes free tips and technique downloads on the website. Print out a schematic chart for proper measurements as well as 22 other tips from designers. Download the free tip eBook here.

2 bonus segments: The 4-DVD set of Knitting Daily TV 700 includes two bonus tutorials with host Eunny Jang. This season she discusses Fair Isle and short-row knitting. You can purchase the newest DVD set here.

Loving this show!  There is a beautiful blue and green scarf on the wire manequin in the background of series 700 episodes (usually seen behind Eunny's spots).  Does anyone know where it can be purchased or what pattern book it may be in?

I have a question for Eunny Jang.  Is the sweater that you are wearing in episode 710 knitted or croched and is the pattern available to purchase.

You all show so many interesting projects and take the time to demonstrate the techniques also.   Being the new director of a charitable group of women that knit & crochet for a local battered womens & childrens shelter in So. Thanks for providing some of the tips in the free E-books.  I just discoveredthat one of my favorite episodes is in written form!  I love the Quick tips section and the Getting Started sections the most.  The talk with the designers is okay, but it always more interesting if they provide a tip or trick instead of just talking about their inspiration or how they got started.  The show is less than 30 minutes, so I want to get as much as possible from each segment!  The Knit Alongs are fun to watch, but I haven't yet tried one.  I am so glad the show will continue, and I would love to have any of the DVDs. Thanks for making this opportunity.

I absolutely love your program!!! I am a Sheperdess/Breeder of Registered Olde English Babydoll Sheep.  They are a beautiful source of fleece.  I spin, knit and crochet.  I generally give away everything I create.  As a result of your show, I learned of the Helping Hands program.  At the school where I am a Title 1 Paraprofessional, I began a knitting and crocheting group for staff to come and learn, relax and take time for yarn.  This coming year, our group is going to create squares to put together to create baby blankets for the premee babies at our local hospitals.  I have been creating hats for a couple of years myself.  I guess our little blankets will be somewhat like the chain reaction, but most are beginners so the patterns may be basic knit/crochet.  I do plan to teach crohooking this year too.   As well, I have the Parent Teacher Organization  interested in teaching second and third graders to knit/crochet through the Helping Hands program and our group will be helping with that as well.  I am grateful to your program and all the talented people involved.

It seems there was an error with my last transmission, so I hope I am not repeating myself here.  Where I live in Canada, we don't get Knitting Daily on tv, so the dvd's are a real treat.  Even though I have been knitting for a very long time, I am still amazed at the "new" techniques which I never even knew existed.  I love all the segments - there is just enough info to whet your appetite for more knowledge and new skills.  Thank you for a great show!

Keep up the fantastic job!  Thank you for teaching us all how to better our crafts!!

The Getting Started segments are our favorite.  Yes, please offer more info in the Quick Tips segments.  This would not only benefit my beginner knitters, but help refresh my memory - if not teach me something new.

I love your show but only get the first couple of seasons on PBS at 7 am on Saturday.

They tend to repeat the same show several times before going to another one.  Since I've already purchased and viewed Series 100 and 200 more times than I care to admit to, viewing PBS at their current time is not fruitful.  Our PBS Station seems to be infatuated with home remodeling and cooking.  How can I get them to put knitting Daily's current shows on at a decent hour?   I'd love to get the rest of the collection, but budget too tight at this time. Love both the getting started and quick tips segments.  In fact, anything Eunny does on the series enlightens my knitting skills.

Thoroughly enjoy the whole show and agree with others who suggest 'slower' and more detailed presentations by Eunny.   Altho the techniques aren't usually 'new', the perspective is often slightly different so a review of the new way gives me a chance to try it at the time!  I have some DVDs but, unfortunately, they usually are stacked away with all the other 'projects for tomorrow' !  Also enjoy the online entries which I often view at the office over lunch or when all is quiet for a few minutes.  If you are ever looking at a way to expand on interests, doing some needlepoint would be nice.

I own the first 6 DVDs and I love them.  I think they have gotten better with each new season.  I particularly like the get started and quick tip sections with Eunny.  I have learned so many new techniques.  I would definitely love it if these sections could be expanded further.  My only complaint is that there isn't enough time spent on each segment.  I sometimes feel like there is too much crammed into each episode.  I like the designer spotlight sections but perhaps these don't have to be a part of each episode so more time could be devoted to techniques.

LindaHensens wrote
on Jul 30, 2011 5:12 AM

I do enjoy the KDTV that I catch on my UNC TV station. I don't crochet at all, so that part of the show is just lost to me. I love watching Eunny Jang, though. I aspire to be able to knit like she does one day before I die! Of course, I just started knitting Thanksgiving 2010, and I don't expect to get to her expert level before I hit 80..but hey! A girl can dream, yes?

I would love to see segments with her expanded and a little slower when she is teaching something new. She shows whatever technique faster than a newbie can comprehend sometimes. I record the series on my DVR to watch over and over again. Last season, I learned how to add beads to my work by watching her do that.. but I would have really loved to learn how to decide where to place the beads because when my piece was unblocked, the beads looked like they were in the right places. When I blocked it, OMG! I thought I must have been on drugs when I placed those beads! LOL.. I do not understand what I did wrong, either.

I would also love to see a show segment, rather long, devoted to the linen stitch. Churchmouse patterns published a totally gorgeous linen stitch scarf pattern made from Koigu hand painted yarns.. It is self-fringing and stunning! I bought the pattern at my LYS along with the Koigu yarns for it, but I would love to see that stitch pattern explored. Come to think of it, the traveling vine stitch pattern would be a really neat thing too.

Yep, longer segments with Eunny.. not so much advertising at the beginning and end would be great. The show claims to be 30 minutes, but with all of the advertising at the beginning and end of the show, I get to see about 18 minutes each week. That truly is why I would not purchase a DVD set. I don't want all of the advertising that I see on the show. Yes, I know that your advertiser's pay for the show to be produced, etc. I think though that you could show the advertiser's in the beginning OR at the end, but to take up so much space on both ends of the show isn't the best to me. I would love to see the whole show, minus ads at the end, devoted to our lovely craft of fiber art. Is that possible? Thanks for listening!

I love Knitting Daily and watch it every time it's on TV.  The "Getting Started" segments are good for beginners, but even an old pro like myself can learn new tricks.  The "Quick Tips" segment is great.  Some of the tips I already know, but some of them are new, so there's no harm in watching.  I don't have plans right now to begin the "Chain Reaction Afghan."  Currently, I'm working on scarves hoping to use up all the small bits of yarn that are floating around here.

Just saw the first episode of the 700 series. Looks like another great season.

I  save every episode, on my dvr, to ensure I won't miss anything. Great for instant replays of segments.

I discovered your show early this year when I my daughter was born and I went on maternity leave. It brought back my passion for knitting. Before this show all I'd knit were scarves and the odd afghan. I never paid attention to the type of yarn a pattern called for, the gauge or my mistakes. When I got pregnant last year, I learned to use a circular needle and how to make bobbles which was really exciting, but I was still afraid of ALL other projects and dpns. Your show has made me become a somewhat "fearless" knitter. Since watching it, I have begun (and almost completed) my first baby sweater for my daughter and am halfway through a baby hat using dpns. The pattern for the hat called for a circular needle in the beginning and to finish up with the dpns but I kept messing up with the circular needle and am doing so much better with the dpns. Eunny was right, they're not that complicated at all! (Just wish I could see the episode about using dpns again so I could see what to do about ladders!). I'm inspired to try intarsia and colorwork knitting because of your show. Since you asked for feedback about your show, my least favorite part is the crochet corner. This is a knitting show, it should all be about knitting. I'm sure a crochet daily show would get just as much attention as knitting daily... something to think about? The on location segments have a lot of background noise, and sometimes it's hard to see exactly what's being shown because the camera can't zoom in on the knitting. I love the knit-alongs, and wish they were included in every season. Love this show! Thanks for a chance to win a whole season's worth.

I really wished the show aired in NYC, but I'm happy to already own all the episodes already produced - it's really informative.  Can't wait to see the 700 series!!!

I have never seen this show but it looks like a great way to learn.  I've been teaching my niece to knit and I think this series will be a big help.

Can't wait for more;  Love to crochet, have tried numerous kinds of knitting needles in order to find a kind that makes learning effortless, but struggle still!

Really need you all!

I discovered your show a couple of months ago and boy has it inspired me!  I just purchased my first circular needle today and am starting a hat.  I had only ever made baby booties or scarves before.  Now, I'm ready to try more.  I am also an avid crocheter and am happy that it is included in the show as well. Thanks for such a wonderful program!

We haven't been able to pick up the local PBS station since it went HD!!  So I really love to have this 4 CD set; maybe I can get the other seasons as holiday gifts or for my birthday.  I will drop hints, that's for sure.

I love these episodes because I feel I could knit in a more expierienced way. I find that I knit more and if I feel a little boring by a part of my project, after a few minutes of watching you I can make it forward and I feel hapiness having my time for my hobby. Earlier I had many UFOs but last and this year - I'm thankful for you for it!

I would love to see Series 700 of Knitting Daily.  However, it does not air in my area.  DVD's like this are excellent ways to see tips and techniques being demonstrated.
