What is that box of words I see in the right hand side of KnittingDaily.com?

A tag is a word or phrase that helps you find posts, projects or patterns with similar content. In a tag cloud, the size of the tag represents how many items have been tagged with that word or phrase. Tags are usually single words and are typically listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with a larger font size. When you click on a tag, it links to a collection of items that are associated with that tag. By clicking on another tag on the results page, you begin to narrow, or "filter" your search.

For Example:

Clicking on the Tag "Pullovers" may present a list of results (for example 20 results), and a second tag cloud. When you select another word, such as "Men" the result list is narrowed to 5 entries.

For security purposes, usernames must be unique to each customer. If you’re receiving an error telling you the user name is already in use, try adding characters, like numbers or other non-alphabetical characters to your username to make it unique.

I see strange symbols instead of regular text and graphics after downloading a PDF!

There may be a problem in how your computer is trying to open the PDF. Try saving the file first and then opening it up directly in Adobe Acrobat, rather than in your web browser.

Also - please make sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. To do that, you:

1) Open Adobe Acrobat Reader
2) Click on "Help"
3) Go down to "Check for updates."

I'm having problems printing my download to my printer.

1. First check your printer settings when trying to print. On the left hand side of the print menu there is a section that says "Print to File", this needs to be unchecked.

2. Check to make sure that you have the correct printer selected before attempting to print, once the print menu comes up.

3. Restart your computer and then print a PDF file. If the file prints correctly, your system may have been out of memory or resources.

4. If the PDF was slow to download, it will probably be slow to print. You might be able to check the printer status on your computer and make sure that the file is being sent to the printer.

5. Try setting the print quality at normal or economy rather than best quality or reduce dpi to 150 rather than 300 dpi. These settings are selected in the printer setup or printer options.

6. Try closing all other programs on your computer and opening the PDF file directly in Adobe Acrobat and not in your web browser.

I'm on WebTV or MSNTV2 and I am unable to access the patterns.

According to the folks at MSNTV2 (formerly WebTV), you can not download or view .pdfs via their browser. Unfortunately, due to the ever increasing number of patterns and the amount of detail required to provide a comprehensive pattern, a .pdf document delivery system is our best option for delivering patterns. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When I try to download a PDF, I get a drawing error notification.

When you are getting a drawing error, it means that your version of Adobe Acrobat doesn't have the ability to view the PDF. Please update your Adobe to the newest version. To do that, you:

1) Open Adobe Acrobat Reader
2) Click on "Help"
3) Go down to "Check for updates."

If you get a notification that there are updates available - download them. That will help!

I tried to download Adobe but had issues?

Adobe asks that the following steps are taken:

1. Make sure that your Internet connection is stable.
2. Try downloading when there is less Internet activity.
3. Increase your available disk space.
4. Set security option to the default level (Internet Explorer only)
5. Disable or remove download, firewall, or proxy software.

I'm getting two copies of Knitting Daily, I really only need one.

Check the email address in each newsletter. Some individuals have signed up using multiple email addresses. If that's the case, you can unsubscribe from the subscription you are no longer needing at that specific e-mail address.

Here are instructions to update your free email newsletters:

You can unsubscribe from a daily newsletter by going to the bottom of your newsletter email and clicking on the link: Manage your email preferences, which will link you to our Preference Center.  Once you are on the Preference Center page click on the dark green  button.   It will change to light green and say .   Once it says Subscribe, you are unsubscribed. It may take up to 2 business days to receive your last email.

I don't want a daily e-mail. Can I get it weekly instead?

Knitting Daily Week In Review is your Saturday summary of our favorite blogs from the week.  Enjoy this Saturday recap with exclusive weekend savings by selecting it in the Interweave Preference Center (link found at the bottom of each Knitting Daily email).

I don't want to sign up for the newsletter - I just want free patterns!

You still have to be a member of Knitting Daily to download the free patterns, which means signing up. As a member, you'll receive the Knitting Daily newsletter...but no one says you have to read it! Delete the newsletters if you wish - but make sure that you keep the one that gives you your password information. And maybe read a newsletter every now and then, just to make sure that you aren't missing something you might really enjoy.

Some of the e-mails are not blog posts. What's going on?

When you sign up for Knitting Daily, you will recieve five e-mails a week (one each weekday). Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays you will get Kathleen's blog posting sent to you. Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will recieve cool information about Interweave books, magazines, and events that may be of interest to you.

Why can't I see images and/or ads?

You may need to turn off any ad blockers on your browser or firewall. Please check the help tab on the top right hand of your browser's main program window for more information.

Is it okay to link to your site?

Yes! Yes! Yes! In fact, we have some swell Knitting Daily buttons you can download. We just ask that you don't post any content including patterns and other images on your site, as all items on this site are subject to copyright.

I really like pattern/project XYZ and am going to print it out for my class/group. That's OK, right?

Well, while it's OK to love the pattern, we would really prefer that only members of Knitting Daily download the patterns. Of course, all of the members of your Knitting club/guild/class/organization are welcome to sign up for free!

I would like to sell a project that I made using the instructions I found on Knitting Daily. Is that ok?

You'll need to contact the individual designer for permission. Contact information (website or e-mail) is typically found in the designer bio at the end of the project/pattern instructions.

Or, you can hit the Friends button on the top right hand corner and search for people you know or who have similar interests with you. Once you have friends, you can select the Conversation button (also top right hand corner) to interact with any community members you know.
