Felted Wool Slippers Free Felt Project #1

Knitted, Felted Slippers by Marcy Petrini

Marcy Petrini had long been intrigued by felt making, but when she tried it she didn’t like the process: too wet, too messy. When she discovered felt making in the washing machine, she started experimenting with shapes, yarn sizes, fibers, needle sizes, and stitches. Marcy prefers to knit an “elephant size” item, felt it, and wear it. For this felted wool project, her challenge was to determine the combination of pattern, yarns, needles, gauge, and pre-felting size that would result in perfectly fitting felted projects. Marcy decided that slippers would be a good place to start learning how to felt.

Wet Felting Beads   Free Felt Project #2

Easy Felted Beads by Amy Clarke Moore

Amy Clarke Moore witnessed the transforming effects of felt making at her college Laundromat when she saw a young woman at the other end of the room hold up a doll-size sweater by its shoulders. She’ll never forget the horrified look on the woman's face as she moaned, "my Peruvian sweater!" While the young woman's felting experience was accidental and traumatic, felt making on purpose is magical. The wet felting process will turn your felt making adventure into magical felted beads that are just plain fun.

Felted Purses   Free Felt Project #6

Formal Boot Bag by Laura Irwin

Sometimes we all need a big bag to hold our workbooks, computer or other daily needs. Laura Irwin used buttons and bobbles to decorate this felted knit purse, which offers a great solution for when you need that extra room. The end result is a more formal bag, which you can take to work or even a fancy night on the town. Laura began by knitting a rectangular base with the yarn doubled for extra thickness, then she picked up stitches around all four edges and worked the body of the bag to the top. For added interest, she knitted a single stockinette-stitch panel that she decorated with bobbles and buttons and attached to the center of the felted bags front, base, and back.
