Hi, I have a pattern to do a hat and mittens that calls for casting on using the two-tailed cast on method using both ends of the ball of yarn and can't seem to find any instructions on how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like a provesional cast on. Try looking up that there are about 4 ways to do it. Hope this helps, if I'm right.

This sounds like the two-ended method of the Swedish (I think. somewhere Northern Europe anyway). I remember Meg Swanson doing a hat recently with that technique, I think it is was in Vogue Knits (sorry Interweave), with a pattern included, that also included variations. Another place to look for more information is my trusty Knitter's Handbook, but Reader's Digest of all things. But believe me, they cover cast ons in all their astounding variety.
