The pattern instructions are to crochet 2 chains to be used for the armhole shaping. I don't understand how they are used. At the appropriate point the instructions are "place next 10 sts on waste yarn for armhole, attach new yarn etc..." Is the purpose of the crochet chain to simply make a thicker " waste yarn" to be threaded through the 10 stitches? If not, how does one place the stitches on the crocheted chain?
Would be grateful for any help from someone who has made this coat.
Many thanks,
June
Hi June, I'd read further in the pattern to see if the crocheted chain is called for later in the shaping or even in the finishing of the sweater. Waste yarn should be some thinner, more slippery yarn (cotton works well) that will hold the sts and easily let you put them back onto the needle.
