Dear Linda Lee,

I have made 3 of these hats.  Think I-cord.  The yarn is held in the back on the right side of the work and in the front on the wrong side.  As you knit, it forms a continuous I cord on each side of the cable band.  One side is your bottom border and the other is where you pick up the stitches for the rest of the hat.  Another trick when knitting this hat,. when you do the first set of decreases in the body of the hat, use double point needles to work the rows of garter stitch, then switch back to your circulars for the increase and the next section of the hat,

If you have anymore questions as you make this hat, just post them here and I will be glad to answer them.  Oh, here is a pic of one of the hats.
