Reading pattern

I have instructions for pattern that says rib pattern #1- pattern repeat 7+2 then it tells me what to do in the following rows. I just don't understand what pattern repeat 7+2 meant    Thank you

Numbers like these in a pattern tell you that the actual pattern repeat is 7 stitches and there are 2 extra edge stitches. If you want to change the stitch number in the pattern for some reason, you would change it in multiples of 7 and then add on the extra 2 sts. So you could work the pattern over 37sts pr 72 sts or 79sts.
