Can any one help me figure out how much yarns are required to knit a poncho - with bulky weight yarns (Alpaca & mix blend) in seed stich.
The poncho is two sqyare if 42", seam one both edge, leaving an opening for the neck. The cowl neck is of 11" height and 22" width.
It's going to depend on several factors: needle size, gauge, your tension for example. The most realistic way to do this may be to buy a skein of the yarn and knit a good sized swatch, measure the swatch and then rip it out and determine how many yards it took. You can scale up from there and maybe add in an extra skein of yarn for good measure.
You could also search out other patterns for ponchos made from bulky yarn and get an idea of the yarn requirements from them. Do an advance search on Ravelry (free to join) for some ideas and see if that helps:
