For the life of me I could not find point protectors for my #3US sized needles (very small needles for sock yarn and lacework). After looking everywhere both in bricks and mortar stores and online, I finally picked up my stitch markers and realized that the smallest plain white ring can be wrapped around the needle point and twisted, to double back on itself and put over the point as one would in a hair band elastic wrap going 'round a pony tail twice!
It now holds my stitches with out the ugly rubber band.
