I'm looking for a vintage hot pad pattern that is started with a grid that is about 10 squares by 10 squares that are about 3 sc by 3 sc (each square).  After the grid is made, there are 1/2 double crochets or sc around the grid that make a pattern.  The 1/2 double crochets (or sc) around the grid 'stand up' to make depth on the hot pad.  These are not really pot holders because there are holes between the pattern stitches.  These are made with #10 crochet cotton.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for.  I found a pattern at crochet central that has you crochet a grid and then crochet stitches into the grid but is made with rug yarn:  http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/july99_crochet_2.html

Hi,  A few years ago, someone got one of these in a box at a yard sale, and brought it to me.  The one I have takes double crochets in a pattern around the mesh open squares.  I don't have an actual pattern, but was able to make one by looking at the one this person brought to me.  It has to be an uneven number of squares.  The one I have starts with DC around the center mesh (both horizontally, and vertically).  I will have to find the hotpad in question, but would be glad to write out the pattern, if you'd like.  Let me know, okay?  Happy crocheting-  Jeannie

Hi..

Wish I was able to give you an actual link to this...but I kept running into dead ends when I tried to find it. In case this helps...

Crochet! magazine July 2003 had a pattern called Wiggly waves trivet that sounds exactly what you were looking for.  It was worked over a base of sqs...19 in total across x 19 sqs down...in #10 thread. The website for that magazine also used to have that patt available as a freebie...but all links lead to "not available now".

Just thought of another idea...Crochetville.org  Came up w/ this link. If you look @ post #2 you'll find a link to lots of discussion. Post # 3 has a link to a patt done in rug yarn...but the same idea. Keep scrolling down + someone has posted pics of one in progress. This should solve your problem I hope!!!
