Hi
I'm Kush from the East Coast and have been knitting and crocheting since I was 8 years old. My favrite and most memorable knitted item is a cartigan sweater knitted for my Mom when I was 10. My best friends' Mom gave me the yarn and the needles for my birthday. Every night after supper for 3 months I went over her house, sat on her couch and knitted this sweater as a suprise Christmas gift. I finished it on time except for the buttons. When my Mom saw it she was thrilled - said she didn't want buttons and would wear it as it is. 45 years later my Mom is still wearing her sweater without the buttons and uses it as a bed jacket cause she says it's warmer than any robe and washes better too. The love that went into it still surrounds her every day. Most of the items I make are given away. A lot of the babies in the family have one of my blankets and they have been handed down to younger siblings as they make their way into the world. I cannot imagine my world without needles, hooks and yarn. They have been my salvation on more than one occassion and continue to contribute to my sanity on a daily basis.:)
Nice to meet you, Kush! I can relate to needlework as being a salvation. Sometimes I feel that if I didn't have something to occupy both my mind and my hands, revelling in the colors and soft touch of the yarn, I'd lose my mind. I primarily crochet (for 40+ years), ALWAYS have multiple projects, an ever growing stash, and am trying to learn to knit so that it is at least presentable. I've only kept one thing I made some years back -- and that was because I didn't care for the color scheme and didn't think it would make a suitable gift. I keep telling myself that it's okay to make something for myself -- but giving something so close to my heart really reigns supreme.
Good luck on all your projects!!
Hi craftcre8r,
Most of my life I've been a crocheter to make things and a knitter to knit. I've always had something on the needles just to be able to pick it up and knit. Both crafts are theraputic but knitting .due to the slower process, has been more of a meditation thing. The last few years that has changed and I've started to make more knitted things and completed them ( that word "completed" is the kicker!) Making something for yourself is almost like developing your own style. I've always admired people who could wear the unusual with flair. When you make something for you, you know it's unique cause no one else has it or ever will. I just recently completed a sweater for me ( the first item I've ever made for myself) and I feel great every time I wear it. Be good to yourself and make your next project for you,
Talk to you soon.
Kush
