I was stirred with the article "What are you most pround of" and realized that it always comes down to the same thing: giving a representation of your love.
I live in Florida and have been a crocheter since a teenager in the '60's and now, as a grandmother, have recently learned (or am learning) to knit -- which, being quite skillled at one craft, is difficult for me when I see the amateurish results of knitting compared to the (hopefully) professional looking results of my crochet. So, of my projects completed in the last couple years, I'd have to say the crochetted sampler afghan I completed for a Christmas gift last year makes me proudest at showing off my skill, but what warms my heart most has been my pursuit of creating items for a school in Pennsylvania to distribute to less fortunate (and cold!) children. The hats, scarves, and more recently mittens keep me busy in the evenings, and I feel so good watching the pile grow and knowing they will be put to good use.
I urge anyone out there who has not crocheted or knitted for a charity to give it a try. There's no feeling like it, and let's face it, don't we sometimes worry that a family member really doesn't need another afghan? Now, if I can just make myself put in those thumbs!
