I have a pattern for a scarf that required knitting with beads.  I have strung the beads onto the ribbon (instead of yarn), and slid them down leaving about 3' empty ribbon behind them.  Somehow, I'm supposed to slide some from the tail and then some from the working end and I am totally confused!  I've asked a few people who knit and all they can say is Good Luck!  please help! THANKS!!

Hi Cassie,

I haven't done this myself but I have watched a friend do this, I hope it will work for you. My friend was making a shawl with beads but instead of stringing them on the yarn which takes time.  She put a bead on her project following her pattern using a tie bread wrapper bent it a little so it had a little hook like a crochet hook and put her bead on that then when she started her knit stitch she pulled the yarn thru and slid the bead on the yarn, pulled the tie wrapper out and finished her stitch and it worked beautifully. Maybe if you practice this a few times it might help, good luck!

(through Knitty) I found great instructions for putting the bead on the stitch before you work it.  Until I saw this blog, I never attempted knitting with beads -- because I've never understood the instructions that have you string the beads ahead of time.  This worked for me -- includes clear pictures.

I havent' done this with yarn, but I have done it crocheting wire.  So it's probably the same idea.

I thread all the beads I am going to use on to the yarn frist.  keep them up by the ball.  When you want one in a spot, slide it right up to your work and keep knitting.
