I ripped out all my stitching and started the project (a hat) over because the knitting was twisted on the needle.  I casted on 200 stitches and statred over.  Now I have about 4 rows done and the knitting is twisted again!!! What am I doing wrong that this keeps happening, so that I can prevent it?

I've done the same thing, except it was the cuff of a sweater - it felt bad enough! I have read in several patterns for knitting with circular needles, "make sure the cast-on row is not twisted ,,," so you've got more company.

I know nothing else than checking very carefully that the bottom edge of the knitting is DOWNWARDS for all the 200 (!) stitches. I was just thinking that if you cast on to straight needles, and then knit the first row over to the circular, that will give you more material so you can see what is the lower edge. And you would only have one row to stitch together afterwards.

Try it out on fewer stitches and see what you think !

Thank you so much for your reply.  I go to my knitting group this morning and I am going to show this boo-boo to them and see if anyone has any ideas.  Then I will give your ideas a try.  I have made 2 of these hats before and didn't have this problem, but now it has happened twice on this particular hat.  I won't give up though!  Thanks again!
