I was wondering if flying from place to place with your knitting needles create a problem at the airport? Pyro
I was flying from L.A. to Chicago on United when my bamboo needles were confiscated. I very carefully withdrew them from my knitting, replaced the knitting into its plastic envelope and replaced the needles when I got to Chicago. Needless to say, I packed them in my checked in baggage on the return trips from Chicago to L.A. to Adelaide. Barbara

Hello everyone!
I am a new knitter and have the pattern for the CPH. My problem is that I have no real experience in reading patterns with charts. I do better with just written instructions.
What does it mean when it says, "Continue in pattern until piece measures 131/2 inches from the beginning?" Do I keep working the rows 1 and 2 of the back using the coresponding charts? Also, with the charts for the cable pattern, do I keep doing rows 1-5 to continue to get the cable effect? This is my first "not a scarf or hat" project and I am going to need a lot of help. Thanks for all help.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been able to bring my knitting on domestic flights, but the needles were circular bamboo so I may just bring the same type needles. I'm really enjoying seeing photos of everyone's projects and hearing about all of the different types of yarns being used. It's a great pattern! I'll upload a picture when I get further on the back piece.

Hello Kelleigh,
The instructions mean: work the rows 1 and 2 (working from right to left on row 1 and left to right on row 2). Then do the cable row (row 3) from right to left. Then do rows 4-10 working from left to right and then right to left etc. After row 10, you go back to rows 1 and 2. Then do row 3 again (the cable row) and then rows 4 - 10 as before. Continue in this way until work measures 13 and a half inches (or whatever the measurement). Hope this is clear.
Hey, LoriZ--
I'm using the Cascade 220 Heathers in the light green/blue hints and I'm not having ANY issues with it being too stretchy. It's turning out beautifully, and I'm knitting both fronts and the back all together. I just have the left front left to pick up from the armhole shaping and it's ready for the blocking board. Then I'm on to the sleeves while it dries! I hope to accomplish much knitting over the upcoming 3 day weekend!!

Kelleigh:My problem is that I have no real experience in reading patterns with charts.
This is an easy pattern to get used to using charts. It's pretty basic. I am new to using charts - I started on a pattern that had both chart and written, only using the chart to see how the stitches lined up. Then I really threw myself in the deepend by knitting the Every Way wrap. Complicated chart, I'll tell you. This is a good pattern to start using charts, nice and straight forward...although you prob won't even need the chart after a couple repeats!
I have been able to take circulars on board and also crochet hooks. I put hook in pen box and I don't think the circulars were recognized by the security. Nothing was said when I used them on board. I also noticed someone else using dpns so they got thru. However, I was very prepared to leave the needles at the airport if somehting was said. When I fly I take new project so I don't have to worry about taking work off needles.
I have finally had time to work on CPH. Finished back last night and hope to get right front done today.
I had my Addi circulars taken away at the Cancun airport in Mexico on the way back in April. I did not have any problem when I left DC with them. I was really annoyed because I almost finished the socks I was working on. Had to take the knitting out and give the needles to the security guys. I am going to Cancun again in November and planning on taking the Knit Picks Harmony. They are cheaper to replace!
HI all!!..Well here is my back and I've started on the left front now... I made it longer to accomidate my daughters long body..It looks more purple here in pic but is really blue with colr specks in it. Let me know what you think.
All the pics look great :o) I'm still no where near blocking, but was wondering would I need to block since I'm using acrylic yarn? And if I did need to, what do I need to do, as I've never blocked before!
Thanks for any help, Jade.

Distroh, your sweater is beautiful and love the color of it. I have my back done and half way up the front but went to use my camera so I could post a picture and my camera quit on me. Now I have to figure that out. Oh well maybe soon. Love all the sweaters posted so far and the colors are beautiful. Keep posting.
I have following the posts for the CPH KAL, awaiting arrival of my Donegal Tweed in the green color shown on the pattern. The yarn arrived & I needed to go down to size 7 needles after doing my gauge. I have finished through two repeats of the pattern & absolutely love the pattern & the yarn. I have enjoyed seeing all of the different yarns & liked the Viking cable variation. What did you decide about the cables for your sleeves and front?
I'm not sure how y'all are posting pictures of your projects. Any hints are welcome.

I caught up on the posts and Kathleen answered my question about posting pics. The green is actually much more vivid. Guess it's that digital photo issue. Since I just started the sweater on Tuesday, I am definitely behind on the schedule. Thanks for all the good info!
I am just getting started on my CPH. I am not good when it comes to the gauge. As the pattern says 17sts and 24 rows=4". I have done this and what I was wondering how many stitches per inch. I usually make socks and shawls and that does not require a gauge. Can someone help me.
