Please I'm ready to throw it all in the garbage! lol  I'm confused with the cast on half the stitches thing. what about the rest of the stitches? I've looked at many websites showing how to do it but that is just making me more confused. I also looked at knitting daily's video on how to do it and duhh is all I can say. maybe I'm just dumb but please help. thanks alot, Carol

Let's say, for example, you are making the smallest size. With waste yarn cast on 47 sts with the backward loop method. With your working yarn, k1, (yo, k1) to the end of the row. That gives you 47 knits and 46 yo, which total the 93 sts the pattern calls for. The next row you k1, (sl1wif, k1) to the end, which is a double knitting method and knits half the stitches of a tube. The next row after that you sl1wif, (k1, sl1wif) to the end, which knits the other half of the stitches for the tube. Work the last two rows one more time (making a second round on the tube). At that point the tubular cast on is complete and you should start on the pattern.

Tephra, you answered clearly how to sold th tubular cast-on problem for  another knitter. Here is my question:  on the diminishing rib cardigan, it says (for starting sweater at Yoke):  with tubular method for 1x1 rib, CO 93 sts. The sweater directions offer both Tubular Cast On and 1x1 rib cast-on. So, which is it: I can't figure ou t which of t hese is what I am supposed to do to start knitting at the yoke!  Help!

Thanks so much for your respo0nse. I am new to this  blogging and honestly couldn't remember where I had written for help so didn't get back here to read your gratefully received response, bubbarat!  I am going to start the cardigan as soon as I finish the little cardligan I took up when unable to begin the di. rib sweater. You are so helpful. I may be getting back to you once I start the sweater since you have been successful with it twice.
