Hello, I'm stuck on the first line of my first project - please help!!

The pattern starts off;

"1st row K1, P1

2nd row P1, K1

These two rows are now referred to as 1x1 rib

Work 18 rows more in 1x1 rib"

Does this mean I should knit 20 rows in total or 38?
