I'm knitting a Two For The Road scarf and I am very new to knitting. Directions say to seed stitch first three rows...I got that....Row 1 is a specific combination of knit and purl stitches...BUT it says Rows 2 (and all even rows), to knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Are they meaning to basically repeat Row 1 for Row 2...Row 4 is then a repeat of Row 3, etc etc?
A seed stitch pattern is one where the knit and purl stitches alternate, and then the rows above and below alternate the stitches, too. You probably know already that when you see the opposite side of your work, a stitch that you purled on the RS looks like a knitted stich on the WS. These directions probably mean that you should honor the stiches from the RIGHT SIDE pattern. In other words, if you were knitting on row 1: PKPKPK, on row 2 (which is now the wrong side) you would knit KPKPKP. Just be sure that the stiches alternate both within the individual row and from row to row. Gosh, that's confusing to explain--I hope it makes sense! And good luck on your project. I've only been knitting about 5 years myself.
thank you. I knitted it the way I first thought and it was obviously not the right design. I'll try again this way.
