I bought my first drop spindle on-line, but since then have checked out all the local specialty yarn & fibre stores. Some yarn & knitting supply stores also sell spinning equipment.  Use the internet to research your local suppliers.

My first batch of fibre I ordered through etsy but it was from a person who lives quite near so I can just go to her direct.  I've also bought fibre at an open house at an alpaca farm.  Keep an eye out for any fibre craft related fairs in your area, too.  The yarn store I mentioned above also sells various types of fibres for spinning. Again, check out specialty stores in your area.

Hope this is somewhat useful.
