This is my first ever thread, so please excuse any mistakes I may make. I LOVE "lily-of-the-valley" lace and have started the Swallowtail Shawl. The bobbles are giving me a serious fit. Can anyone give me any help in accomplishing this stitch without dropping any of the loops you swore you have on your needle but found out later you had missed? I am fairly versed in lace knitting having knitted sweaters and shawls in the past. But this has me hanging my head. I have tried a crochet hook, but it is soooo slow that I will be working on these last few rows this time next year. Someone must have a "Why-didn't-I-think-of-that" tip to help me through this.

Thanks for your time,

Hi Samalee,

I have not (yet) knitted the Swallowtail, nor anything else with this stitch, so I am not much help just now. But hopefully someone else who has knitted this will chime in...

Folks?

Instead of p5tog, try this instead: slip 2, p3tog, psso 2 - it is the same thing.

Info read on Ravelry - not my original idea; just passing this along.  I hope this is what you were wanting to know.

 Ann,

That is the "Why-didn't-I-think-of-that!" tip I was hoping for!. Thanks so much for your help. I have made sweaters with bobbles, but I guess it is a combination of the fine thread and the big needle that is throwing me off.

That was a good tip! So good, I have now started a special page for good knitting tips.

Great tip!  I am also knitting a shawl that requires the lily of the valley and the p5 was giving me fits.  This short cut works much better.

awesome tip!! That's one for the books.

I was just going to suggest some Signature Needle Arts stiletto points, which appear to have been designed with Nupps in mind. They are not cheap, but boy do they make that technique sing.
