Oh, what wouldn't I create?  Lots of different socks and more unique giftys for my friends, and more things for me using different techniques like entrelac and modulars...  If you view my blog you can see some of what I've already come up with.

    Hiya

Clothes!  If I had no other responsibilities I would make sweaters, from cashmere to fair isle to cables, for myself and everyone I love!

And the yarns....OH MY GOODNESS.... I would, since we're fantasizing here, also be wealthy enough to have an entire room, lined with wooden cubby shelves, filled with all manner of luxurious and colorful yarns--money being NO object.  Every time I wanted to start something new, I'd just "shop" there!Wink

What I would do with all that time... I think I would be knitting up complete sets for children and babies.  A complete set would include: hat, sweater, onesie, pants, socks or booties, mittens, blanket, pillow, car seat cover, neckroll, and some toys.  Then I would probably knit me some sweaters... and socks... l would love me some socks... and gloves, along with some blankets for a queen size bed or king.  That is what I would be doing... provided that I had someone else prepare my meals for me and provide me with ALL supplies.Smile

I would knit purses.  I love to knit purses.  I like to felt them and they are fairly quick.

I love to mix yarns to do them and when I used Cascade 220 in gray and added Noro silk garden the compliments are still coming.

I used Sirdar ribbony stuff once and everywhere i go people talk about that purse.  I just finished a Sirdair purse with roses all over the front and the same reaction.

i knit sweaters alot and grandchildren sweaters which I also love to do.

I would love to never worry about price of yarn and just knit whatever my heart desires.Big Smile

Try looking at Phidar site and looking at children and enfants books.   You will never want to knit anything else.

    Hmmm!

Well I thought about your question.  The best way for me to answer is that whatever yarn I choose for that particular project becomes my favorite at the time.  I have all kinds of yarns because I like a lot of variety.  So when I choose a yarn it's because it 'spoke to me' in some way I couldn't resist using it for my project.  Does that make any sense?

Gee, I feel honored because I do have all day to knit.. and knit... and knit.  As a disabled senior, my movement is limited so I get to do what all of you would like to do!!  Having been a knitter for 60+ years, I've done most everything over the years... even a knitter of Estelle Gracer sweaters at one time. A few years ago, I got hooked on lace... Orenburg in particular.  I am addicted to shawls; especially the Medallion Shawl... have done at least 25 of these over the last five years.  Always done in wool, usually merino 2/32 on size 0 needles.  with more than 180,000 stitches in a shawl, I can do a complete shawl in about 250 hours. (a month of knitting).  Sometimes I spin my own yarn on a spindle, but can't waste my time.. getting old!!  I also do Faroese, Shetland, almost anything difficult.  Will be starting Estonian lace in the next few weeks, accumulating instructions now.  Have to complete my entries for CO State Fair first!!  Keep your needles clicking!!! Wink

     Hi Kim

Well first I would have an enormous room that is mine just to create in. One one end would be my scrapbooking area with lots of room for friends to scrap too.  On the other end would be my knitting area that would be very cozy with comfortable furniture to sit and make wonderful things.  In my room would be a beautiful bookcase filled with my collection of knitting, crochet , scrapbooking and gardening books.  I would also fill my room with lots of homemade items.  Colorful afghans, knitted wool rugs,  knitted lace curtains, doilies and I almost forgot about the mannequin in the corner that has on a very nice homemade sweater.

Most everything I've knitted I have done for others mainly because I feel I should get gifts done first then work on my stuff.  It seems though that I never have time for my stuff.  But...... if I did that is what I would be working on.

When I can retire from working and get my  playroom I just may never come out.

     Marria,

I really enjoyed reading the description of your dream room as it sounded very similar to what I imagine my perfect craft room to look like! I felt more relaxed and inspired just reading about it. My husband and I recently moved from a 1 bedroom apartment into a 2 bedroom flat and we've decided to split the larger 2nd bedroom between us. Before we moved my yarn and sewing machine were crammed into a closet and corner in the living room so it's so nice to have some space specially reserved for my creative interests! Hopefully I can create some of the coziness and comfort you described.

I know what you mean about knitting for others. I've been working on a sweater for myself for some time now but it keeps getting put by the wayside, most recently to knit some baby items for my new nephew. And then of course will be holiday knitting . . . ;-)

     Hi Jody,

We are in the process of selling our house and moving too.  I'm a little bit worried because my yarn stash will certainly be found out (unless I can knit really..really fast). My husbands pretty good but every once and a while I'll get that look. Yikes!  There are alot worse  habits ..... right?

I'm working on Christmas stockings right now and some hats for my cousin who is going through chemo treatments.  The girls in my knitting group are knitting some beautiful things and I feel like knitting one of EVERYTHING.

    Re: Tell your favorites

    Hello Kim,

Funny you should ask this, as it has been in my mind. When I was younger my pleasure was in shaping things: eg. socks or a teddy-bear's sweater knitted on four needles all in one piece. Figuring out where the increases and decreases would go to make the right shape: how to get a big increase suddenly without having to put too much pressure on one link: etc. But more recently my concentration has been pretty much zero, so I've been more inclined to large flat panels... big dull cardies... baby blankets... scarves... that sort of thing.

But then it occurred to me that I'm not really doing the knitting that I want to do. So I've been working on my first pair of socks for years (and struggling with some very odd yarn) and as soon as that is done I'm going to try a moebius scarf with all the weirdness that entails. I've read the pattern about 10 times and I still can't see how it works - can't wait to get started on it. And I've got some lovely yarn which was given to me for my birthday.

So, in short, I've decided to act as though your perfect scenario was true, and who knows, maybe it will be!

    Jill

     Hello Everyone

My wishlist is just too enormous!!!  Since going online I have added so much to my list of things that I want to make.  Mostly I stick to baby things and in another group someone challenged themselves to make 100 pairs of booties.  I would love to do this and I probably have 100 or more different bootie patterns.  I would also like to knit Alan Darts Nativity Scene, which I really should start now!!  Some of his other patterns for toys and Jean Greenhowe are tempting too.  I have cut many toy patterns from Woman's Weekly magazine and some day....I will knit one.  Someone mentioned designing patterns, I would love to do this, don't know if I have the know-how, although some years ago I could knit an aran sweater without a pattern, I just followed a few simple rules and measurements.  I am in the process of learning to crochet, it's early days yet, and I have done a couple of baby hats for charity, they will help me to learn how to read the patterns.  I learned initially from English patterns and have to translate the web patterns as mostly they are U.S terms, this keeps me busy!!

    Lots of Love

    Lizzy

    Hi Kim,

    What a good question.

I'd love to have the time to design and knit some nicely fitting jumpers and tops for myself (probably my daughters too, since they generally ask if they can have what I'm knitting...). A range of lace, cable and fair isle designs. To be able to just indulge myself.

As for yarns. Well, I love the texture of merino wool. Any yarn I use mustn't be at all scratchy or itchy - not always easy to achieve. I'm still searching for my perfect yarn. Still, what better reason for visiting the local yarn store?

    Mandy:)

     Hi Kim and everyone!

Well, since I am making and stashing away my sock collection for Christmas, I guess i'll say that i hope to make 5 more pairs of them. (Everyone has to get two more pairs!) Also, if I can make a nice wrap for my DIL I will be thrilled. In addition I really need to crank out 3 sets of hat/mittens for the youngest nieces and nephews. I also recently bought a wonderful book of men's sweaters. If 4 lovely versions were to work their way off my needles i'd be delighted. Well, since it's only a dream, why not dream big!
