I'm pretty new to knitting and am still struggling with patterns. I have knit socks on dpns and 2 circular needles. I have a pattern that uses 2 circular needles and knits 2 socks at once. I am just not understanding how each sock is knitted in the round. Has anyone used this method before?
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but I knit two socks on two circs at the same time. I tried it out of frustration.
Edited: I hit send before I meant to. Whether you knit one, or two socks on circs, you need two needles. You cast all of you stitches on one needle and then split them in half, by placing one half on the other needle. Place a stitch marker on one end, so you know where you beginning round is.
If you are planning on working two socks, you pretty much do the same thing. You cast all stitches on one needle; split them it in half, by placing half on the other needle. Then with another skein, or the other end of you skein, you cast all of you stitches on the first needle again, split in half and place half on the other needle.
I absolutely love knitting two at the same time. The tension is the same; the stripes are always accurate AND I finish them LOL.
There's a diagram somewhere online. I'll hunt it down and post it for you.
Here's one: http://www.webdesignsbybarb.com/tostetoes/twosocksoneneedletoeup.htm
Here's my favorite: http://www.socknitters.com/2circs/lessontwo.htm (you may need to got back to the intro and lesson one to make sense of it, but this particular tutorial really worked for me).
Thanks so much! I'm checking out those sites to see how I do.
You're welcome! Let me know if you run into problems and please post pics when you're done :D
Once I started doing socks like this, I'll never go back to one at a time - no more worries about getting them to match, and I don't have to count rows or take notes as I'm going.
I learned from Sheron's cyberlesson that nyc gave you the link for, then I got the book "Knitting Circles around Socks" to fill in a few details.
I also thought this lesson was very good: http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/twocirculars.html but it only deals with one sock at a time.
The first pair will be clumsy, but once you get the hang of it, you'll fly. Good luck!
