I usually crochet, but lately I decided to learn to knit. After getting the hang of a basic knit stitch, I made a scarf with faux suede yarn. It turned out well, the only problem being that my mom almost went crazy over the sound of my knitting needles clicking together!
Does anyone else have family members who are easily annoyed by clicking sounds? What do you do to appease them?
Thanks's great that you are learning to knit! I've been a knitter for awhile, and am trying to teach myself to crochet but its been difficult. Are you using aluminum needles? You could try knitting with needles made out of wood, bamboo or plastic. I don't think I really notice a clicking sound with those.

Yeah, they are aluminum needles. Thanks for the tip; I'll look for needles of a quieter material next time I shop.
My husband misses the sound of my aluminum needles now that I use "silent" Addi Turbos and bamboo needles!
If I was in your home it would drive me crazy too because I have very sensitive ears. I am a knitter and I used to use metal knitting needles and they drove me nuts. So now I only use Clover teak wood knitting needles; there is no noise when you knit with wood needles. Good Luck, Leslie

I love the sound of clicking needles, it is comforting and rhythmic to me. I am gradually losing that sound though as every time I make something with a different size needle I am replacing my aluminum needles with bamboo. I don't have trouble with my yarn sliding off the needle as I do with aluminum.
Yes, I too have a few pairs of aluminum-type needles but I have not heard any complaints, except from myself. I do prefer the plastic, wood, etc. - the more quiet ones.
Craft until your eyes and you .
