http://www.astraknots.com/knit-purl-english-continental.html

http://www.astraknots.com/garter-stitch-stockinette-st.html

Knitting into knits and purling into purls is a technique for keeping track of where you are when you are doing ribbing. Once you've established the ribbing pattern, if you continue to knit into knits and purl into purls you will maintain that pattern without having to keep track. But it helps to know what the knit and purl stitches look like first. Those videos might help.

Welcome to the world of knitting! Enjoy :)

Re: Confused Beginner!

There is so much to learn that we're all still learning. Here is a link to a good "Getting Started" tutorial.

http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/learn-to-knit

and also a link the knitting the knits and purling the purls. It's really just a way to say "work the stitches as they are presented to you". If you see a V, knit it and if you see a stitch that has a little loop around it, purl it.

I just read something that talked about knitting the knits and purling the purls and I am still confused about how I can use that. I was hoping someone can break that down for me. And when I start a project how do I know which stitch to use. There is so much to learn! Any insight is greatly appreciated.
