It makes wonderful skirts, tops, shawls, etc. I sold the business, moved away and took some of the yarns with me. While cleaning out a room today, I found a 2-pound cone and some bags of pre-wound black Cravenella yarn, plus a 2 lb cone of "orchid" Cravenella. The orchid is a deep mauve-grey which, with the black, were our two best sellers. All the yarns I have are stored perfectly to keep them in pristine condition.

If you or anyone you know is interested in any of this, please let me know.

Dear ZassZ,

I have bought 2 editions of Valuable Knitting Information in the past and neither book lists an author or publisher. However, I googled the title and got the name of a place where I could purchase the latest edition. The name of the shop is Kirtland's Yarn Barn (in VA.) and their website is www.yarnbarn.com. The Fall 2008 edition (50th edition) contains "everything that has been printed in previous editions." The Fall 2009 edition (51st edition) contains the "latest yarn interchange data " and is a supplement to the 50th edition. The Fall 2008 issue is $42 and the Fall 2009 issue is $32. These are not cheap but, in my opinion, are really worth the money.

Melrose yarn was Company had beautiful yarns. I am not sure when they went out of business but as I was going through my old yarns and patterns I ran across a few patterns that use Craynella.

The pictures of a couple that I found are at my etsy shop:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/45080576/vintage-melrose-knitting-pattern-261-red

That pattern tells needle size and stitch gauge for craynella. (below)

Needle size (6 and 8 US)
Gauge: 5st = 1 in.

You can actually use any pattern you like with the yarn as long as you make your own gauge.

I actually made a whole outfit out of craynella. Skirt and Sweater. It is a wonderful durable yarn.

I happened to run across a big bin of Melrose Yarn but have yet to really inventory to see what is there. :)

Re: unknown yardage

Dear BellesBliss

Hi All,

This type of yarn would best be suited for driving gloves, light socks, etc. A fashion shawl perhaps. The wool would make it warm. But the ply and thickness of it would lend itself to small needles rather than the larger ones.
