Network

The following stitch sequences recur throughout the
network,

Ch 6-picot: ch 6, sl st in 6th ch from hook.
Ch 3-picot: ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.
Picot loop: ch 3, ch 6-picot, ch 3, ch 6-picot, ch 3.

Rnd 8: *(Ch 3, ch 6-picot) twice, ch 3, sc in sp between
next 2 petals, (ch 7, ch 6-picot) twice, ch 7, sl st in same
sp between petals (corner), picot lp, sc in sp between
next 2 petals, rep from * 3 times, ending with sl st in
joining st of Rnd 7.

Rnd 9: Sl st in first 5 ch (you should now be at the middle

of the chain and picot loop), keeping picot to front of
work, *picot loop, sc in next lp between picots, rep from
* around, sl st in last sl st at beg of rnd.

Rnd 10: Sl st to center of next lp, keeping picot to front of
work, *picot loop, sc in next sc at corner, (picot loop,
sc in next lp between picots) 3 times, rep from * around,
ending with sl st in last sl st at beg of rnd.

Rnd 11: Sl st to center of next lp, keeping picot to front of
work, *picot loop, 1 sc in next lp between picots, rep
from * around, sl st in last sl st at beg of rnd. End of
motif.

I've saved up to buy enough yarn to crochet this beautiful blanket, and was sooo looking forward to start it. Only to see I run in to trouble at the fourth row! lol! I'm hoping someone can help me out, I've been googling, but I'm not really getting any answers.
The pattern says "RND 4: Ch 1, sc into side of last sc of prev rnd,
sc in next sc"

What does this mean? Side of last sc? I tried doing it literally, and it turned out like a little weird lump and didn't look very fluid or nice at all. I tried ignoring and just continuing the pattern, which looked a lot better, but I'm afraid I'll have to unravel down the line if it turns out wrong. All the rounds from four on start like this, so there has to be something to it, right?

Thanks for any help!

If so, did the Cable Band Pattern work for you as written? I have been trying to work on it several times today, but my cable does not look like the one in the photo. I seem to get the X where the cable crosses over, but the rows on either side do not seem to continue the pattern, with some stiches coming to the front and others going to the rear. Instead, 4-6 each have you do all stitches in either bpdc or fpdc, which creates a straight line.

This is the first time I've done cable work, so I could be doing it wrong, but I've followed the written pattern carefully and examined the stitch diagram closely.

I can only loom or rake knit, and I have about 20 different types of looms in many sizes and shapes, this is because my left hand is damaged from a spinal cord injury and I cannot knit with knitting needles. I used to knit, but crochet always felt more natural to me.

Sadly it looks as though they didn't knit. The way they made socks is by sewing the wool together in someway that I can't quite work out. The alternative is to crotcet your socks. Not sure I believe them but it is the agreed method. I need help with designing a working sock in crotchet.I am a knitter. I can do the basics but that is all. So the sock will have to be simple. I'm new to crochet and would like to learn how to make a granny square afghan. Is there a pattern to follow and techniques I must learn? I know how to single crochet but that is about it. Someday I hope to do doilies, but I have a lot to learn before then. Any help would be great.

Diagrams vs. written instructions

I've been crocheting since a kid (now a grandma) and only in the last couple of years have I had to try and translate a diagram into something that makes sense to me. I bought a Scandinavian book with a lovely pattern last year and after numerous attempts at deciphering the diagram, gave up.

Does anyone out there know of a reference I can utilize to learn this reading skill? I can work up most any pattern, as long as I understand it!

I'm a knitter learning to crochet and the cover pattern for Interweave Crochet Summer 2008, the Santa Fe Shawl, looks really fun! Are there plans to bring it to the KD store? I suppose I could hunt down a copy of the magazine via Ravelry's groups and buy it, but I'd much rather have a PDF that I could re-print if I spill something on it!

Thanks!

I'm a knitter, who crocheted a million or so years ago. My granddaughter wanted a ladybug afghan that she saw in one of my pattern files. It's a herrschners design. I started making it for her, but cannot do it because of the arthritis in my hands. It's mostly double crochet with color changes.

Where can I find someone who would finish this for me. My granddaughter keeps asking about it. I tried Craigs List, but couldn't find anyone. Any suggestions would be most welcome. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee.

I love in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, but I assume all of the materials can be mailed to someone.

Please help.
