I've just finished reading it. I understand that the patterns themselves are copyrighted. However, I still don't quite understand if the stitches that are published on their own are copyrighted. Of course, I'd be able to use stitches like the stockinette stitch, moss stitch, garter stitch, etc., but would I be allowed to publish a design that featured a stitch from the Vogue Stitchionary, for example?

Are knitting stitches copyrighted? If say, I 'design' a shawl with a stitch from a "Vogue Stitchionary" or "Harmony Guide" would I be allowed to publish the design if I make my own charts, formulate instructions in my own words, etc.?
