OK I HAVE BEEN A KNITTER FOR SO LONG AND I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A HARD TIME I WANT TO PULL MY HAIR OUT CAUSE ALL DAY ALL I THINK ABOUT IS HOW MUCH I WANT TO MAKE THIS KNITTED HAT SO HERE GOES I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS IS MEANING I ADD ALL THE NUMBERS UP IN RND1 AND IT DOESN'T ADD UP TO 86 STITCHES PLEASE HELP ME  . CAST ON 86 STITCHES [*(K1,P2)3TIMES,K1,P3;REP FROM*3TIMES,K1,P3]  TWICE. Hopefully this will help.

I'll write it out "long hand" so to speak.  

K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P3.  

You do the K1, P2 three times - so K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P2

Then K1, P3.  You repeat this sequence three times. then another K1, P3. 

Then repeat that entire sequence another time.  You should work out to 86 stitches.  

Hope I don't confuse you more.  Sometimes for me it works to write it out in what I call "long hand".
