I'm ready to BO the shoulders on the back of a sweater. Working on the WS the instructions say to "BO all sts knitwise, dec as foll: BO across as usual, working a k2tog into each 2-st column of garter stitch." I have been working on a jewel cross pattern, not a garter stitch.
Is this similar to the jewel cross stitch pattern that you're using? Inside the ovals is a column of garter stitch and these are the two stitches that the instructions want k2tog during the bind off. It's just to keep the shoulder from flaring out. Very pretty pattern!

Thank you! That is the jewel cross pattern I am using. The directions seem rather obvious-- now that you have explained it!
