I read the knitting daily blog about the Orenburg Shawls Kathleen talked about with great interest.  My husband and I have travelled to Russia many times and on one trip an elderly lady, whom I had never met,  gave me what she called an Orenburg shawl.   I am embarrassed to say the gift remained in the bag until I read Kathleen's blog.  What I discovered is a gorgeous rectangle shawl that is whisper soft and I can even see some bits of the goat down.  At the time it was given to me I was told it was hand knit by the lady and that Orenburg knitting was very special.  I have recently become an avid knitter and can now appreciate this treasure.

Oops!  I found another one!  This one is square and a light brownish tone.  The rectangle one is white.  I was grateful for the gifts before but now that I am a knitter ... I am doubly grateful.

What treasures! I've only seen pictures of these kinds of lace shawls and they are magnificent.
