I just finished and am assembling the Rowan Softknits Collection Kenmare pattern, and discovered I have left out 2 1/2 " of straight stitching befor the main pattern begins.  Can I rip out from the bottom and add this??

Yes, you can do that. Because of the way the knit sts are formed, you can't just unpick the cast on then rip up but you can cut and put the two parts on needles. Either that or cut and put the main body on a needle and rip out the lower part. Then you would knit the extra inches plus whatever ribbing there should be.
