When I begin step 8 on the Nutkin short row heel instructions, I have 21 stitches (including the left side pairs), 10 stitches for the middle of the heel, and 21 stitches on the other side (the right side pairs).
If I YO, knit to the first YO, and K3Tog, I end up with 17 stitches on the left needle before the turn. If I continue repeating rows 8/9, by the time all the pairs have been processed, I have more than the 32 + 1 stitches.
Should I really be knitting/purling to the YO pair, or the first YO (which has me knitting/purling the first stitch of the first pair)?
I've worked the rows 8/9 about 5 times now trying to get this right and have yet to get through it. Anyone have any words of wisdom on how to do this? I'm tempted to use a heel flap, turn, and gusset that I've used on other socks, but would like to learn how to do this.
These videos may be slightly different than your pattern but maybe they'll help. It may be that video part 2 is more applicable to the part you're up to but I've included both.
Thanks, I think that second video tells me what I need to do.
