What projects have you worked on that you would give "you" a gold star to?
List as many as you like. I think it's a good way to gauge how we have improved in our personal skills and fun to share our thoughts on . . . .
And all the women who were wise of heart spun with their hands, and they kept bringing as yarn the blue thread and the wool dyed reddish purple, the coccus scarlet material and the fine linen. Ex. 35:25
I like knitting. I'm not a good sewer so I started from basic project of knit Fall Tote Bag. For this I found some online Instructions on favecrafts.com. I got some good free knitting patterns over here and that helpful me a lot for knitting project.
Cool - everybody could use a cool tote bag don't you think? Thanks for sharing.
Just finished knitting a cool cell phone holder that has a nice strap for over the head or over one shoulder. I like to use it when I am on longer walks with my dog and take nothing else along except a bag for him. My friends tell me I should always take my phone in case of emergency. So it is working out well. Actually I picked up a pattern for it free on my last trip to the yarn shop. I always try to make every trip count, even if I don't find the yarn I am looking for. Just happened to grab one of those free patterns on the way out. I had taken a friend with me to introduce her to the world of knitting and we had fun browsing all over. I embellished my cell phone holder with some beads that I had saved from a necklace and placed an ornament on the flap which I saved from one of my mother's necklaces. I love it. It reminds me of her each time I see it.
So has anybody done some cute little item they want to talk & share about?
I noticed the sachet in the current magazine, and thought it would be fun to make, but a phone holder would be really cool. My oldest daughter who should have been born 100 years ago in the deep south will just love that. I will make it for her birthday that’s this summer. Thanks for the thought. My daughters have so many things I've made they are saturated with sweaters etc.. Right now, my project is using up all sorts of scraps of yarn by knitting a mobile with 5 birds that hang on individual dowel rods with leaves (the leaves are also knitted) on the rods. I have to make room as my leftover yarn drawer is too full!!! The birdies are fun and fast and I am stuffing them with yarn. I got the pattern from Knitty (online). My doctor's wife is expecting a 2nd baby and I'm sure there are plenty of sweaters, etc. left from the 2 year old so this will be appreciated.I love Interweave Knits I have learned all knitting is not just knit or purl since I bought my first issue about 4 years ago and have been a subscriber ever since. I look forward to the daily emails. I've been knitting since I was 5 years old and love it so much! When my 3 daughters were born, they had only hand knitted, or crocheted things I'd made and that was really fun. They even crocheted edgings on their sheets, knitted buntings with detached hooded sweaters, etc. What a nut I am and always have been for knitting and crocheting. Now with Interweave Knits as a guide, my projects are much more creative. I am working on a project everywhere I am, be it on the train to work, at lunch, in the evening watching TV, waiting for a computer to upload, getting my hair done, at meetings, and on and on.
I have been knitting for many years, but I have just discovered the secret of lace. I've never tried it because it looked so complicated, but now I have discovered that it's not.
I've knitted a beautiful stole in 2ply yarn and now I can't get my hands on enough of the many different yarns in 2ply, ranging from silk to a gorgeous fine wool. So at the moment, everything is in lace. I love it.

Hi JuneC,
Enjoyed your reply above and thought I would say so. I appreciate your mention of taking one of your projects with you to work on (everywhere you are). It's amazing how much one can accomplish once we get into the habit of taking our projects along. How did your bird mobile turn out? Thanks for writing.
Hi Cynthia,
That's great, about your learning lace. I recently found a lace pattern that I adapted for use on a beret. I did the lace pattern right above the band for a more interesting look. There are so many lace patterns it is fun to at least try out a few of them. KNITTING PATTERNS by Gisela Klopper has a nice collection.
Thanks for writing too.
Hello Ladies,
I too have been knitting for years. My favorite is lace work. I've knitted many sweaters, socks, scarves and so on in patterns and heavier yarns. Not that lace can't be done in a heavy weight yarn, it can. I started spinning my own yarn and love spinning as thin as I can, makes for perfect lace weight yarn. My love of natural fibers and lace led me to buy a herd of Angora goats who now supply my fiber! I'd have never thought my love for knitting and fiber would have led me to a back yard full of goats today. I am at present knitting another Kerry Blue Square shawl with kid mohair. It's lovely and so soft. A friend is building me a drum carder so I can mix wool with the mohair easier and create a yarn with some elasticity so as clothing it will hold it's shape. I'm so excited to make more yarn and knit more! (Grand baby expected in January in Colorado, gonna need warm clothes) I'm also thinking about adding a couple sheep to the back yard--all this because I love lace! What next? LOL
My Favorite thing that I have ever made is this really cool braclet. Heres the pattern...
Cast on 5 stiches with size 7 (US) needles.
Knit 1 row Purl The Next. Keep going till your bracelets long enough.
Then Weav your ends in and sew up the ends and there u go!
But I would DEF. give that a gold star ! CUTE ! They are EASY to make and take NO TIME !!! Hope you like them and the pattern helps to !

I knitted an aran sweater from an old Yankee Knitter design. Easy to knit but looks so hard. Everyone has asked where I bought it or say "Would you make one for me?" (Best answer for that is to suggest that your lys will be glad to teach them.) have made several but this is my favorite!!
this is great and i will do it with my girl scout class... and may even add a few beads to it
thanks for the idea~
Welll lately I feel like doing really quick little things. Just finished a few lacey looking headbands. I gave as gifts and were well received. They don't take much time and shows someone you care about that they are being remembered in a small way but the receiver of the gift feels like they are being thought of in a big way because you took the time to knit something for them by hand.
I like the idea of the little wrist bracelets too.
Cynthia,
I too have been knitting for many years and just discovered the fun of lace! I started with a couple of cashmere scarves, using different lace patterns. Then when a friend was going on a cruise, I decided to knit a small black lace shawl to cover her shoulders at night (also she was going to the Vatican and it could be used as a head cover).
I made up the pattern as I knitted (brave soul!) and it came out beautifully. I immediately did another which is similar but not exactly, as there isn't a true pattern. These were done with a black boucle wool yarn and I used size 6 needles. Now, I've started two more using patterns. One is in a watermelon wool/viscose with size 4 needles and the other is a white nubby rayon and I'm pairing it with a thin strand that has a tiny crystal bead every so often - this is on size 6 needles.
So glad to have started this - and glad you have too. It's fun to learn to do something new - and great for the memory!
Linda
The bracelet sounds great and fun!
I have done similar ones, only knitted the long way - 32-36 stitches with Elan Esprit yarn which is elasticized. I threaded initial beads with the names of girls in a children's center. About 6 or 7 rows, bind off, sew up the seam and they're ready to wear.
