I'm almost finished with my first fair isle sweater. I used Ann Budd's Handy Book of Patterns and made a cardigan. I'm not sure how to add a button band with the pattern. It needs to be sturdy since it's for my three year old son. Somewhere I read about a thin crocheted edging that is looped for the buttons, but I'm not sure how this would look. The sweater is a seamless yoke with the pattern band across the shoulders. Any suggestions for a sturdy button band that will work with a fair isle?
Congratulations on your first fair isle sweater! They are addicting aren't they?
Are you looking for something different than the usual ribbed edging? What edging did you use on the cuffs and bottom? That would help to think about what to do for the button band. I love the look of the loops with buttons, but am wondering if they may be too fragile for a 3-year old, (thinking back to my sons at that age).
