I think you my have misread the information, It's probably 16-20 sts per 4 inches in stockinette. Gauge is usually given per 4 inches, you need to measure over a larger (than 1 inch) piece in order to get a reliable assessment of your gauge.
Good luck with the KAL, I'm thinking of doing it too!
Hi all! I saw this on Ravelry's description of the Bella pattern:
This pattern was original advertised as a free web download in the
Summer 2007 issue of Interweave Knits but never available directly in
Hope that clears up where to find the pattern (or NOT find it!!!!).
That's not cool.
It's exciting to take part in my very first on-line knit-along! This is a pattern I've wanted to try, and it'll be great to hear how others are doing theirs. Kathleen, thanks for the yarn suggestions. Happy knitting to all!
.. me too, is it available anywhere other than by downloading it?
Hey! I am in the same boat! I make a great scarf! I want to make something I can wear! I usually spin my own yarn, but I am game to try what the pattern says.
perhaps we can encourage each other. I am giving it a shot!
While the feel of Pima cotton is wonderfully luxurious, I can't afford it. I *can* afford Bernat, or Peaches 'N Cream cotton -- but I'm not sure it would be suitable.
But I'm wondering ... The yarns mentioned are all blends, cotton & man-made, cotton & silk (for the drape I assume) and cotton & wool (for the elasticity/memory).
Could you do this blouse in wool? I can afford wool because I can spin wool. I think it would make a great winter vest, done a size larger so as to fit over a long sleeved T. Does this sound practicable?
And can we get an estimated yardage on this? I think it's running 680 yds on the high end for the worsted weight body, and 534 for the edging. It's also not clear to me ... IS the body yarn a size 4 (worsted) yarn? Is the trim yarn also a size 4 yarn, or is it a 3 or a 2, sport or fingering or lace?
After some searching...the patern was a web only offer with Interweave Knits Summer 2007. My question is how do subscribers get the pattern if we did not d/l at the time the issue was current?
I do not think it is fair to have to pay again. Regardless of price!
Kathleen? I looked in my account and could not find 'subscriber bonuses' anywhere as are listed with other magazines.
Oh, my. I want to do this. My knitting experience is pre-pubescent at best, but I hope to learn as I go along. So please count me in!
I'm in; I think the blouse is beautiful. A little nervous about the fit, as I am petite, busty and a loose knitter!!
Carol, the pattern was never in the magazine. I don't know why it was posted that way. There was a tiny picture of it in the Summer 2007, but not the pattern.
I started with Interweave Knits Summer 2007 and then looked through the whole stack! Where is this pattern??????
Did you check out KnitPicks.com yarn? It is much more affordable than yarn available at my LYS and better quality than that generally found at Michael's or Hobby Lobby.
Can't see it in there either.
Me too; I've wanted to make the Bella Blouse ever since I saw it. I'm pretty sure I ordered the yarn for it then too...now all I have to do is find where I put it! I know I have the Linsey; just got some more from some store where it was on sale. Do you think this is a difficult pattern? I'm going in the hospital for surgery Monday and know my concentration faculties will be below par for some time. The main part looks pretty straight forward; maybe I can knit that in a few weeks and save the edgings for when I'm back to normal.
Use the needle size that gives you the correct gauge with the yarn you are using--yes, you need to knit a swatch!
