This smart menswear vest harkens back to the traditional knits we all love. Using classic Fair Isle motifs, sticky wool, and steeking to finish the neck and armholes, the Fall River Vest is a master class in Fair Isle knitting.

Skill Level Intermediate

Finished Size 35¼ (38¼, 41, 44, 47, 49¾, 52¾)” chest circumference. Vest shown measures 41″; modeled with 1″ of positive ease.

Yarn Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift (100% shetland wool; 115 yd [105 m]/7⁄8 oz [25 g]): #101 Shetland black (MC), 3 (3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5) balls; #108 moorit (medium brown; A),
2 balls; #103 sholmit (light gray; B), 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3) balls; #106 mooskit (tan; C), 2 (2, 2,
3, 3, 3, 3) balls; #235 grouse (red/brown; D), 2 balls; #102 shaela (dark gray; E), 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) ball(s); #105 eesit (ecru; F), 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) balls. Yarn distributed by Simply Shetland.

Needles Size 2½ (3 mm): 16″ and 24″ circular (cir). Size 3 (3.25 mm): 24″ cir. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); removable m; stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge 30 sts and 33 rnds = 4″ in charted patt on larger needle.
