I wish more of my family members were knitters. For starters, it would make family gatherings that much more fun if I wasn’t the only one sitting around with knitting needles in hand while we catch up on life events (or watch football games, parades, James Bond marathons, in between naps). Also, it would make gifting a lot easier—I could just pick a knitting kit that I thought a particular person would like and gift them not only the yarn and pattern needed to make a project, but also hours of enjoyment! Talk about a gift that keeps on giving.
We’ve created some great knitting kits this year, and I just know that we have a kit in our store that would make some knitter in your life very happy. Know someone who loves variegated yarn (who doesn’t?!)? Our brand new Hoxey Cowl Kit from Interweave Knits Winter 2016 combines a solid natural color with a handpainted version of a luxurious and affordable baby alpaca yarn.
The DotDotDot Cowl Kit from knit.purl Fall/Winter 2015 also pairs a neutral yarn with a multicolor yarn. The dark charcoal yarn paired with the lighter gradient combine to make an eye-catch and easy to knit cowl.
Our incredibly popular Tourlaville Shawl Kit from Knitscene Fall 2015 also features a gradient yarn, as two balls of Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball are used in a simple two-color brioche technique. The initial run of this kit was so popular we had to order more, and we have just a handful left.
If my grandmother still knit regularly, I might get her the Trillium Knitted Shawl Kit from Interweave Knits Summer 2015. This beautiful crescent shawl has a gorgeous lace pattern knit in a scrumptious yarn, something I’m sure she’d love to wear around town.
If someone on your gifting list has expressed an interest in learning how to knit, we’ve got a couple of knitting kits for them! The Learn to Knit a 1940s Inspired Headband Kit comes in both coral and blue, and includes a video to help new knitters easily create a stylish headband and get them started on the road to knitting success.More experienced knitters looking to tackle a new technique might love the Caen Knitted Cowl Kit from Knitscene Fall 2015. Brioche knitting is one of those techniques that only seems daunting until you try it—I had never knit brioche before I knit this cowl, and not only is it easier than I thought, but it’s really addictive too! This cowl knits up really fast; you could even whip one up before the holidays as a finished gift!
The Deep Woods Toque Kit from Knitscene Winter 2015 is another one of those that could either be a great gift on its own, or knit up quickly to present to a special someone in your life. I just love the contrast color of the cast on edge and pompom!
