Congrats to the designer of this beautiful pattern for winning the 'most interesting design element' category in the Share the Love Design Contest.
Living in Georgia, it is a little bit of a challenge to knit a garment for the warmer months of the year, so that became my inspiration and challenge. The design process went fairly smoothly. The crocheted rings neckline was a little challenging as I worked out the best way to connect the rings. The most valuable lesson I learned along the way to designing this top was to keep it simple. I wanted a flattering and easy to knit top with shaping that incorporated a possible simple but new technique for the knitter. The crochet feature on the rings is that "new" technique. Instead of using traditional shaping, the waist is shaped by small sections of ribbing in the sides which become invisible while still providing that shaping. The front and the back of the garment are exactly the same.
