This is a pattern from PieceWork September/October 2014.

FINISHED SIZE:  9 x 8¼ inches (22.9 x 21.0 cm)

MATERIALS

  • Fabrics, strips of prewashed 100% wool, 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and ¼ inch (6 mm) wide in assorted Reds for background (¼ yard [0.2 m] total), Black for cats (1⁄8 yard [0.1 m]), Gray to outline cats (1⁄10 yard [.09 m]), and Bright Yellow for cats’ eyes 3⁄16 inch (5 mm) wide (scrap piece)
  • Burlap, rug hooking linen, or Monk’s cloth, 1 piece, 16 x 16 inches (40.6 x 40.6 cm) for backing fabric
  • Rug hook
  • Embroidery hoop, 10 to 12 inches (25.4 to 30.5 cm) in diameter
  • Fabric scissors and rotary cutter
  • Marker, permanent ink
  • Ruler
  • Sewing thread, carpet, color to match foundation fabric and Black (optional)
  • Needle, long-eye sewing
  • Twill tape, 1¼ inches wide (3.2 cm), Black, 1¼ yards (1.1 m)

Note: All supplies are available at local rug hooking shops, online, or through mail order.
