It is really good to see weaving on this site.  Many of the modern fancy knitting yarns work really well on the loom.  The loop and slub yarns often show up better in simple plain weave than they do in knitting, where those features can get lost.

Try a simple rigid heddle loom if you have never woven before.  They are easy to thread up, very portable and great fun to use.
