A child's cardigan with Fair Isle stranded colorwork, steeks, and delicate picot edges worked in superwash fingering-weight wool. This sweater is worked in the round with steeks. The sleeves are worked cuff-up and sewn in after knitting.

Finished Size 22½ (24, 26½, 28)" chest circumference, buttoned (including ¾" front bands). Sweater shown measures 28", modeled on a five-year-old.
Fiber Cascade Yarns Heritage (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon; 437 yd [400 m]/100 g): #5618 natural (MC), 2 (2, 2, 3) skeins; #5617 fuchsia, #5611 yellow, #5612 green, #5613 pink, and #5614 lavender, 1 skein each.
Needles Body and sleeve—size 1½ (2.5 mm): 24" circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Bands—size 0 (2 mm): 24" cir. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

• Markers (m);
• tapestry needle;
• five (five, six, six) ⅜" buttons;
• sewing needle and thread to match MC;
• smooth, contrasting waste yarn;
• sewing machine for steek reinforcement (recommended).
Gauge 34 sts and 40 rows = 4" in solid-color St st using larger needles; 31 sts and 39 rows = 4" in colorwork patt on larger needles.
