A girl's knitted dress is worked in two pieces from side to side. Short-rows shape the full skirt, while a denser gauge, pleats, and fewer rows make for a fitted bodice. Stitches at the side seams, cast on provisionally, are joined with three-needle bind-off.

Finished Size 9¼ (9¾, 10¾, 10¾, 11¼, 11¾)" wide across upper back, to fit chest sizes 21 (23, 26, 26, 28, 30)". Jumper shown measures 11¼", modeled on a three-year-old.
Yarn Tahki Cotton Classic (100% mercerized cotton; 108 yd [99 m]/50 g): #3528 light bright yellow, 6 (7, 8, 8, 9, 10) skeins.
Needles Sizes 6 (4 mm), 5 (3.75 mm), and 1 (2.25 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge 16 sts and 25 rows = 4" in lace patt on largest needles, after blocking; 20 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st on largest needles.
