These mitts can be found in Lucinda Guy's Northern Knits book.
Laceweight yarn has traditionally been used by Icelanders to knit patterned mittens and handstukur (long, lacy wrist warmers); these practical little mitts fall neatly between these two types of hand wear. With some simple calculations, the pattern could easily be extended to make mittens or simplified to make wrist warmers.
Knitted in Ístex’s Loðband, these mitts must be washed before wearing, allowing the yarn to soften and felt slightly. The color palette available for Loðband ranges from soft tonal shades to strong, dramatic colors—all reflective of the varied natural colors of Iceland.
